    C90CF2CF-0668-4B65-9B39-76D9727E0715.jpeg Weekly update

The work on the class 25 painting continues, she’s looking good but no pics till she’s finished being painted

The HST gang also had some of their fleet out of the shed Today being checked and ticking over

Elsewhere we kept bumping into the pway lineside and the Mencap group were doing site work, ourselves we
We’re replacing a few damaged roof tiles up at Riverside and then working on connecting Rowsley points for testing and also to finish off the Rowsley box safety mesh work , plus some Electrical faulting works.

The MR brakevan is presently having its roof refitted in the LMSCA shed. Which should be well on its way by the weeks end

"Distant Trails" - Ted Parker (professional video producer, Yarm)

"Sit back and enjoy Ted's films of steam in the landscape, and the stories behind them. There is a memorable sequence filmed from a helicopter showing 'Tornado' with wonderful exhaust trail sweeping its train along the scenic Cumbrian Coast against a backdrop of the Lakeland hills".

As if that were not enough, Ted recently added...

"I have recently been scanning some very old negs I took early 1960s around Sheffield ... it is amazing how they have come up .... some very nostalgic scenes .... some very interesting non railway pics of how Sheffield used to be including a 'clippy' on the top deck of a brand new Atlantean bus, the old 'Rag and Tag Market' etc. plus of course Sheffield Vic & Midland in abundance".

Ted hails from Sheffield and is joint author with Ken Horan - who joins us tonight - of 'On Parallel Lines' photo books. A professional photographer in the steel industry, he went freelance in 1989 and apart from corporate and documentary work, he has been providing material to "Transport Video Publishing" for over 30 years.

I hope you can join us.

The Ashover light railway folks have continued the extension of their running line around the picnic site
Field, more ballast has been delivered and more track panels to go in too, the packing and lining are yet to be done

d8 was having some maintenance undertaken and the continued sanding and repainting of the class 25 continues in the shed, the other RMB is having some panel work attended to as well as new steelwork in its ends, so far one bottom running plate out of two has been welded in and fitted.

I noted the HST gang were at work in their shed but didn’t call in as was passing through to the LMSCA who’ve roofed the brakevan now and are onto the roof sanding and covering next

Some more Loco related news from
Mr Briddon on RS8 and such, whom has also been busy having some locos go out and come in midweek ,the class 31 Athena is also due to depart and was being shunted today ready.

A slightly early shout out for the following event up at Rowsley on 25/26th at the Heritage Shunters Trust

    THE ANDREW WILSON MEMORIAL GALA

In memory of one of our colleagues, our first Gala of the year features an eclectic mix of 7 or 8 ex British Railway Diesel shunting locos, selected from our large collection based at Rowsley South, operating each day.

Brake van rides will be available as will guided tours of our facilities, along with a free complimentary handout explaining how our collection evolved included in the price of your ticket.

If all goes to plan, we will be reintroducing our Class 14 into our roster of running locos for its return after an eight-year overhaul. One of the true “White Elephants”, of the early Beeching plan in action, that were “surplus to requirements” when being introduced.

A great day out for all the family, and of course the occasional railway fan. Trade stalls will be in attendance.

    In a tribute to Andy, 7 or 8 shunters should be working from the following list; D2953, D2854, D2139, 03113, D2205, D2284, D2587, 07001, 08016, PWM654, Bigga and D9525.

The Heritage Shunters Trust reserves the right to add/alter/cancel any of the details of this event without prior notice.

For further information about this event please visit www.heritageshunterstrust.com

Peak Rail trains will also be in operation from 11.00am and normal fares and timetable will apply to these dates.

    Also

pra-sheffield] MONDAY at 19:30 "Railways Remembered" Film Show, Library Theatre, Sheffield

    40th Anniversary Show!

The class 37 work Also continues and the boss was changing an oil filter over on it and giving it a start up by the time I was leaving

The narrow gauge track has reached the edge of the picnic ground roadway and some ballasting work has been done but there’s still lifting and levelling to be done yet and while we had a chance we pulled up the old cranks from the ground on the DDNGR and moved them down the site

Apart from that my own dept did some
Welding up of drive rods, a bit of faulting and some maintenance work too

I started the day doing some deceleration at church lane before moving onto maintenance and cleaning the gate locks down at darley dale , then upto Rowsley for some more work, thanks to the bobbies for the brews too

Managed to bump into a few folks while there, the Ashover chaps were busy deveging too and also have been busy building the framework up for a box van on one of their old flat wagons, I also noted the boiler has been temporarily mounted inside the chassis on their oil fired steam Loco, it’s a long way off yet

Up in the HST shed they were cleaning out the filters on the 06 to sort out a fault

The other buffet carriage continues to have sections replaced on its north end, with new panelling and framework being welded in slowly but surely

The industrial Loco mr Civil owns has had new cab sides made up and this is slowly coming along nicely too. As is the class 25, awaiting new batteries but the generator and connections are this weeks work

Up at Darley the station gang have started with fencing work on the platform as well as the old ODM hut guttering , I missed a chance to see how mr Briddon was getting along but I can link upto the weekly blog for an update

Lastly more of the platform timbers at Riverside have been replaced I’m told but rain called off finishing the job, I must get up and get a photo soon

And on top of all that the first day of the bus event was on, looked fun I noted two Trent buses

My bad . I stood corrected Dave

Called in on Friday whilst replacing the darley lever lock covers for updated versions to make life for the signallers easier and also to do some foliage management

The class 37 was in the shed having its primer coats applied and there’s some welding to do on the front end and the cab sides, some relabelling has already started , beyond that she runs and John was telling me she’s going back in the BR blue large logo livery with her Ravenscraig nameplates back on when done, I also bumped into Harvey who was telling me the MR brakevan is about to have its roof material fitted which should See it nearly done

I missed out on the lotus event but hopefully someone will have photos somewhere they could upload

Looks like good, honest, British rust to me.

The early examples had doors on the front, and this problem may be a reminder of that, after they were sealed off.
