That is the way I read it and then heads LE (plus SC?) to Weymouth on this path.

It does seem odd that BIL will be taken down to Pen Mill only to run back up again, but perhaps that's to keep it out of the way of some regular traffic at the Junction. Anyway it will only be taking itself and probably the support coach up Evershot, and out of Weymouth it may or may not have an active banker. I'm still hesitating whether to book on this trip, as a rare chance of a ride behind BIL without going up north. (There are some seats still left in dining.)

I would have thought that Bill would have been turned run round, with support coach at Yeovil, then head the train to Pen Mill, where the diesel would take over for the trip to Weymouth, with BIL on the back so on arrival at Weymouth she is in the right place to shunt the ECS into the sidings .

Suddenly there seem few trips in the south of England that work easily any more. Weymouth, Swanage, Bournemouth, Eastbourne, Hastings and along the coast plus, recently Windsor - all need some extra help to turn trains. It's never been straightforward but now it seems to be impossible. All very depressing.

This trip is identical to that ran in 2017 featuring 34046 (as 34052). The support coach was coupled to the rear of the consist with diesel at rear of the train. At Yeovil steam comes off to turn with support coach staying with the train on the run to Weymouth. Once steam has turned it runs to Weymouth light engine - the times from RTT suggest this reading a 0Zxx headcode.

Seriously reduces the time the passengers would have at Weymouth to do that, and many may not think Yeovil Junction has much to offer in the way of entertainment.

And the rest of us know that Yeovil Junction has nothing to offer in the way of entertainment!

Last time I was at Yeovil Junction there was plenty of entertainment. In addition to watching Clan Line on the turntable, we had brake-van rides behind a shunting loco, a model railway exhibition, miniature traction engines and even an albino boa constrictor!

I've always understood the description from RTC after adding the Weymouth option to be:
"We will be diesel hauled between Weymouth and Southampton on the return with our steam locomotive at the back ready to haul us from Southampton to London."
Only hope has ever been that the DL will run on shadow paths when not needed so BIL can do her stuff.

Logic suggests that both BIL trips will take a diesel for legitimate operational reasons. End of.

I think that applies to the Bournemouth Belle on Saturday. The discussion of turning BIL at Yeovil refer to the trip on Tue 9th - I think...

Correct and with the U still up on jacks in Herston Works (an unusual Page 3 photo in the Swanage local paper this week) as Big Al states a diesel is needed for operational reasons as there is nothing else "local"

Definitely light engine , it's class 0. If it were conveying a support coach it would be class 5 and would have time to run round at Yeovil PM.

    Cheers, Neil

would there be time to detach the Support coach , run round , put that onto the London end of the stock, before hauling the train up to Pen Mill, before setting back to the junction to turn ?
