They must have a lot of money if they can afford to raise it £50 at a time.

You'll find it's quite hard firing a loco with your hands! One lump, or two...?

The shovel in question has just sold for £400!!!!!!!!!!!! :smt103 :smt103

That is just madness. I am seriously concerned if that buyer is planning to perform safety critical work on any form of railway!

Does that suggest that there is a potential market for someone to produce a quality repro Lucas shovel. Or does it suggest there is just one individual who has too much money?

Well, makes a change from spending £60,000 on a nameplate.

Or 45 quid on a teaspoon.

On the basis of £45 for a teaspoon, it makes £400 for a Lucas quite a bargain!! :-k :-k

Ah, but this wasn't just any teaspoon, it had the mystical letters GWR stamped into it! (This automatically guarantees a four-fold increase in price.)

Mind you, there's a thought... Acquire old BR shovel (preferably one which is battered to death, for proppa orfenticity), carve the sacred three letters into handle, stamp blade with 'For use on (insert number of King)', and perhaps wrap a bit of old rag rand the handle - 'Yer, Colletts hanky mate.' Job done!

I reckon I could buy an Aston Martin with the proceeds from that. 8)

Ah yes method to the madness and too much money, I had a 15% off voucher from ebay and I also think that looked after well it will be a sound investment. Not too mention the service i will hopefully get from it. I was more concerned with the bidder who was raising the amount he was willing to pay for it without reason. There was a touch a red mist decending when bidding there though I have to say.

But it wasn't just any old shovel. It had the magic word Lucas engraved on it! Worth far more than anything stamped GWR!
