I think this is a really good point and it would be great to see the MHR prize posessions including Wadebridge stored under cover

I believe that during WWII there was a batch of King Arthurs sent to Tyneside for a short spell which means that in the normal run of workings they should have managed some workings to Edinburgh. I recall reading this in an Ian Allan annual from the 1960s but forget which edition. Perhaps some SR fans might know more details ?

I seem to remember reading that some D1 0-4-2T were loaned to the LMS around Ayr during the second world war. (David L Smith - Legends of the G&SW in LMS days). One batch of King Arthurs were built by NBL in Glasgow in the 1920's.

    Regards, Neil

Anybody thought of gauging the loco for the route yet???

Be typical for it not to fit would'nt it.

Has an LN ever gone to Edinburgh before? Come to that, has any Southern 4-6-0 gone there? The only SR loco I can think of is the West Country (Yeovil? Bude?) that took part in the loco exchanges in '48, but I don't really know. I've an idea that some SR engines were loaned to other companies during WW2...[/quote:1inx918h]

An SR light pacific went to Scotland in '48 but pretty certain it didn't go to Edinburgh, although I stand to be corrected. Went north via the WCML and did the trial runs over the Highland main line to Inverness.

Eastleigh Works would have been nice.
Shame it was only a rumour.
No offence to MHR - before any petal presses the "COMPLAIN" button.

Now that Nelson didn’t run on the rail tour to Scarborough today and the rail tour on the 6th December has now being canceled. The next possible rail tour for her maybe the postponed tour also from today that will take her to Bath on the 10th December. Will his mean that she may now arrive at the MHR in early December?

The tour to Bath on the 10th December has been cancelled, and don't forget 850 has a trip to Edinburgh on the 20th December.

Yes, I don't expect Nellie to return south until perhaps after Christmas. She's more likely to stay at York, or possibly Carnforth, until the i's are dotted and the t's crossed on the agreement with the MHR and ERPS. I'm really looking forward to my first token exchange with 850; standing in the six-foot at Ropley and reaching up...!

apologies if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but i dont fancy trawling through 31 pages.
Why did 850 get moved to carnforth by road, im assuming she must be fit for purpose having been pencilled in for the tour. if she goes back south, will it be under steam or on the back of a wagon

  18. The lack of mainline connection at the GCR meant roading the engine and tender is the only option

Is her support coach (Mk. 1 BSK 35317) with the loco at Carnforth, back at the GCR, or elsewhere?
