    Thinks: that's a "Hampshire unit" isn't it? :)

Just booked on this as it has the makings of a good (if long) day out. No diesel involvement apart from haulage Plymouth to Par, which is fine. Fire risk should be zero after today’s heavy rain, so fingers crossed that 46233 passes her FTR exam. On arrival at Par, I’m planning to take the bus connection to Fowey which seems to have a selection of pubs.

It will be my first trip behind the ‘Duchess’ solo (I was on the double-header with 5043). My trainspotting started just in time (1963) to watch these magnificent engines hammering through Hemel Hempstead station. On my tenth birthday I had as a present a Kodak Brownie Vecta 127 camera and on my first roll of film I optimistically took a photo of a Duchess at Hemel station, probably doing 80 mph plus. I was rather crestfallen to receive the prints back from the chemist - they revealed all too clearly the limitations of a fixed focus, fixed shutter speed camera!

Still sitting in Plymouth - I assume will now follow 1A98. Anybody on board with any info on delay? Looks like she was 40 late getting back to Par but only a 5 minute late departure. Extra time required to bring the fire round for the assault on Hemerdon?

Announced on board as low hydrant pressure on the station so tender took a while to fill.

The Duchess has just passed Dawlish very slowly as it's had to follow a local stopper between Newton Abbot and Exeter.

Oh well, plenty of time for the locals to wave at the train. :) <BJ>

Passed the stopper at Dawlish Warren, drain cock blow spoiling the sound slightly as the regulator was opened passing the station - camera operator malfunction messed up the shot!

When she was going to be late at Cockwood harbour I was a little gutted as the light was lovely at the time she should have passed However the tide was literally turning and in that 30 minutes the harbour became half full and the last gasp of sun caught her as she was on the charge, unusually being allowed through on the fast with the local being held in the loop at Dawlish Warren, she was quite the sight and sound.
