I'm quite sure that the lads at 10A will have something to say about that outburst

You might want to have a look at some of the videos on Youtube of the 4th July North to South positioning move of 35018. The smokebox door paint was already beginning to get scorched before she made it South.
Perhaps it was that big bright thing in the sky which gave her sunburn as she journeyed from the dark, dank North to the Sunny South :);)

Looked fine through Cwmbran this morning; then again, 34046 didn't have to lug 10 + a Class 47 around on 2 tours to Weymouth in the south like big brother 35018 did. Needless to say, sadly, we couldn't bring ourselves to do either of them.

Hats off to Saphos for the diesel free English Riviera Expresses; we could only get on one of them; but from an enthusiasts point of view, not for the Dorset Coast Expresses to Weymouth. If all is well, I guess 34046 will be on the 'proper' Welsh Marches Express on Saturday. Looking forward to that after the excellent May 4th run.

Great shot, lovely light. Never saw one of these when sat on Hest Bank station footbridge or the embankment (no fencing then). Almost 60 years ago now. IMHO BIL fits in here as well as any Duchess ever did (and still does occasionally).

Big Al Also mentioned the smokebox door seal between the door and smokebox ring is a seal, made from hemp rope, sometimes an inexperienced fireman can over tighten the door deforming the seal, and then that effects the partial vacuum you need in the smokebox to have an effective blast from the blastpipe to throw most of the particles out the chimney in Self cleaning smoke boxes the idea was for screens to collect and blast most of the Ash out of the chimney , the size of the mesh used to form the spark arresting screens also can have an effect on the combustion of the coal

If they have used emulsion it would certainly be the wrong paint. I think Victor should be careful what he alleges or Carnforth might be sending a couple of "boys" over to Dewsbury.

Thanks. Seems to have made it without a water stop unless any was taken at Gascoigne Wood?
