Has anybody else read the article in the SVR news about climate change and the changes the railway might have to make. I don't know if the bit about steam electric hybrid is serious or not.

Did it mention solar panels on all available roofs feeding to immersion heaters on fireless locos?

There was mention of batteries in the tender and traction motors providing most off the power. The can not assume that heritage railways will not have to conform to carbon targets.

Apologies if mentioned elsewhere but will there still be a Spring Gala in March 2020? Need to get holiday dates in early!

2020's special events are on the main website. Due to the work involved on the falling sands project. The normal March gala is now towards the end of April.

    "Must of missed that"?

That should read "must have missed that".

There doesn't seem to be much on NP about the SVR recently. The ASG is only 2 months away and by this time of the year there has usually been much discussion here.

    Any news on ASG visitors?

Nothing has been announced yet, that I can recall, not counting the long-term visiting locos already on the line

No hard info to report, but there was a change to the SVR website's ASG page fairly recently. In June, it mentioned that the gala would celebrate 75069's return to traffic "so expect a Southern theme with at least three visiting locomotives".

The Southern name-check has now disappeared, though mention of 75069 remains, and the page instead has the much more generic line "We're hoping for at least three visiting locomotives".

The WSR operations thread and the subject of inspections, bridge and track works the got me thinking and checking back to 2010.

If I recall the consulting engineer does a full line inspection (every five years?) to set priorities.

The part-Lottery/part-SVR Charity funded £1.2m plans to restore Falling Sands Viaduct have been in the news, but it follows previous works at Bewdley South (Sandbourne) and Bewdley North (Wribbenhall) viaducts and an overhaul of Bridgnorth bypass Bridge and Bridge 19 (County Boundary). Work is also planned at Borle.

Network Rail's test train has been used to check the full length of the line for track twists and dipped rail joints and its rail grinder has also visited, as has the ‘drain train’ and inspection cherry picker. Track relaying has taken place at Eardington bank, Waterworks Crossing, Bewdley tunnel, County Boundary (landslip), Elan Valley aqueduct (water works) and between Sterns and Hay Bridge and between Victoria Bridge and Arley.

Quite a list of things to be thankful for! It's a thought though that all accounts for only a few miles of a 16.5 mile line...

    LOL. The official word:
    https://www.svr.co.uk/NewsItem.aspx?a=890
Due to a fallen tree on the line between Highley and Hampton Loade, the following service will operate today, Monday 22nd July.

    - trains will run between Kidderminster and Highley only.
    - a vintage bus service will operate between Arley and Bridgnorth.
    - no trains will be operating between Bridgnorth and Highley.
