EOS 5D Mark IV_190719_9103.jpg Fortunately, the late afternoon's heavy rain had stopped by the time that the diesel, two steam locomotives and the ECS passed through Hartford right time at 17:43.

    Cheers,

I wondered what Leander was doing on that movement then saw that it's ready for the NWCE on Sunday, with 6201 doing the CME tomorrow with the 37 hauling the train to Liverpool.

The 37 looks as though there's a bit of work for a panel beater on the front panel.

6201 propelled off HC under the control of a man standing in a half open gangway door. Is this now considered safer than leaning out of a droplight?

Yes probably given the circumstances, but he will no doubt have weighed up his options.

I would assume (yes dangerous I know) that the person controlling the propelling movement
A Knew what they were doing and ensured they did so in a safe manner, including their own safety
    B knew the plan
C was in contact with the driver at all times
D Had ensured control knew in advance what the movement was, and had ensured any moves were pre agreed and that they were not going to be safe to make those moves
All very different than someone who is an untrained , with no official sanction to be doing anything that puts them in place of danger.

The only thing that is missing is a barge coming towards the bridge. Good shot.

Perhaps the points have been repaired by now? Can someone have a look to see if the point components are a different shade of rust? ( Sorry, retirement means I no longer have access to detailed engineering works information.)
The Engineering Access Statement produced by Network Rail gives the "No Train Period" as 2240 Sat to 0855 Sunday. As this would be non disruptive it won't show up as a possession on section 7 of the EAS.
Over a couple of weekends it should be plenty of time to change a crossing nose and both set of blades. ( Changing pairs of point blades are done on Southern routes in about 6 hours using a 12t plasser crane, although the welding may be left to following weeknights!)

    Cheers, Neil

I was under the impression it was the length of the headshunt beyond the points that was the problem in Hellifield down loop and it came to light after a SPAD last year. The loop is usable but not for a passenger train.
