RTT always show an excessive load for steam hauled movements to represent the slower acceleration capabilities.

Jeremy, Big Al's post of June 2015 gives you the essentials of RTT:
There remains quite a lot of confusion over RTT data as it relates to steam charters. This note is to restate a few points as we understand it.
    • A steam charter will always be shown as 'diesel' because there is no facility in the software that migrates into RTT for a 'steam' entry to be made.
    • The maximum speed shown may relate to the registered speed maximum of the locomotive but it may not. The reason is explained in the next point but it does not necessarily mean that just because a 75 mph locomotive is shown on a RTT path as timed for 60 mph, that it will be restricted to 60.
    • The load shown will seldom equate to the actual load of the train. The reason for this is that the software has to handle a form of traction that is slower to accelerate than others on the network and the only way to allow for that and create the space around other services is by tweaking the variables - i.e. to, for example, 715 tonnes and 60 mph.
So whilst the times shown will be real, the other entries are not and are there to make the software work, or occasionally, force a path to fit.

Ah! Thank you. I had always wondered why they show steam specials as diesel-hauled and 715 tons but assumed this meant they were just some arbitrary data for steam as the system had not been devised for such specials. What I hadn't realised was that there was a correlation between maximum speed and apparent weight. I'd read that no doubt but not at a time I was dealing with a slow-speed schedule such as this current one of 45 mph derived from the use of the 8F.

8F's maximum speed limit is 50mph.

Don't believe everything you read on RTT!

I suspect 45mph is not derived from the max for the 8F but from running tender first. All will be revealed tomorrow. Thing about RTT is to distinguish the tweaks from the reality!

I was in two minds about filming there but opted for Stafford station instead.

Not sure what caused the delay. It arrived early (and I missed the arrival because it was a last minute decision to venture out for it). When I arrived the train was at the north end of the goods loop next to platform 6 waiting time. Then after a while it reversed south towards the middle of the station, only venturing back towards the signal again shortly before it's delayed departure.

Think I recognised Ray Poole on the footplate, but don't know any of the other crew.

I meant the overlap between arrivals and departures. Both there at the moment according to RTT.
