If you like at the times it just effectively cut down on a lot of its stoppage time. When I looked at the timings I though they were slack to say the least.

Isn't the idea to have built in time for stops to inspect the loco and deal with minor problems if they arise. So if there are no issues then the test run goes early provided NR can slot it in.

Most test runs I’ve had the joy of filming nearly always don’t stick to the timed paths as sometimes Horrocksford gets missed out hence the early climb of Langho and the early return to 10A today.

Correct. We’ve developed these paths for the worst case but, if all is well, there’s plenty of opportunity to get home early.

Some just like to complain for the sake of it.

What a ridiculous comment. The timings are not there for the likes of you or me. They exist to, inter alia, monitor the progress of trains on the system. The fact that the information is shared publicly is a bonus not an entitlement.

Bear in mind, this wasn't a passenger service. It was strictly empty coaching stock with locomotive on test. So the only people the timings have a bearing on will be the TOC, locomotive crews and signallers. If all three are happy that an earlier path is identified during running, then who are we to complain?

In that case they could be regarded as 'ghost movements with only 'control' having knowledge of the actual location at any given time

But note that RTT shows the passing times at various points if the specific train timetable is looked at. For chasing the train after the Hellifield restart it is a simple case of judging travel time by car to the preferred point and waiting for the train to arrive based on the scheduled time without stops. As noted stops are included in RTT in case of problems but often there is none; the only uncertainty is at Horrocksford where the possibility of delay depends on the running of the local service which reverses at Horrocksford then waits time in Clitheroe station before returning to Manchester.
