When you say the locos were laid aside at the first opportunity, the info/caption in Jeanmaire's "Swiss Steam" is attached below. It seems they did last a few years in this condition.

    "All The Stations"

As of Monday afternoon, the All The Stations WSR video had over 26,000 views & climbing quickly.

I wonder if the Commercial Department could offer a discount if All The Stations were mentioned when purchasing a ticket.
I wonder if all 26,00+ viewers will visit the WSR.
    Wouldn't that be nice!

It’s a great video and a fine advertisement for our wonderful railway.

Maybe viewing it should be compulsory for all Nat Pres visitors. They would quickly see that some of the nonsense posted on here is simply that - nonsense.

Comments like this from senior staff are one reason I have ruled out ever volunteering on or donating to the WSR

It does seem that the WSR presents two faces both of which are quite well portrayed in the previous two posts. (21063 and 21064)

Moreover I'm not normally a Bible-quoting chap but when I see all the comments as to how to visitors the railway looks lovely - which, it's fair to say, it does - therefore nothing serious can be wrong, Daniel 2:31-35 comes to mind

What I have witnessed here on the Isle of Man on several occasions are the orignal Victorian coaches being frequently washed whilst standing at the platform at Douglas before the first train of the day , similarly the train at the other terminus Port Erin would have the opposite side of the coaches done before their first train. Because of the frequency of the washing they do stay in remarkably good condition . I do think there maybe needed a determined effort to get the coaches up to 'spec' but once done a frequent even daily effort , working from a platform so no safety issues as working with steps would involve and hopefully whilst the visitors are having their breakfasts . I know the coaches are smaller being narrow gauge and mainly except for high days and holidays only 4 on . ( The loco needs assistance to deal with the climb out of Douglas in poor conditions with more than 4 . ) These are the original Victorian rolling stock and to look at you wouldn't think so . Just a thought ! I suppose the question is , are there the volunteers ? As I see it 2 would be needed , 1 at MH and another at BL , I'm sure the standard of the coaches would improve immensely in a short time .

Yes the railway does look fine, mainly due to the volunteers it seems. However, chapters 37 - 45 are an interpretation, so I presume a miracle is expected. :)

Going back to the previous example of the Ffestiniog washing carriage stock whilst it stands in the platform at Port: I understand that the FfR has employed a seasonal paid carriage washer to do this particular role, rather than relying on volunteers.

  12. I've been pulling pints in Quantock Brewery's taproom on each of the three 'Shuttle Saturdays' and have had conversations with several customers, mostly new faces, that have used the GWR shuttle from Taunton to visit our Brewery and, in some cases, also the village pubs. Some of these folk have combined their taproom visit with a journey further down the line. This is all most encouraging and something CAMRA could help to promote, as we have with our timetable leaflet (in partnership with Buses of Somerset) highlighting beer and pubs along route 28.

I will be most interested to see evidence of journeys originating along the WSR, destination Taunton.

Yes, and it would also be interesting to know if any of the MRLG and its supporters are using the shuttle to get from Minehead to Taunton.

I was taken aback a little when I read the headboard adorning 53808 on Saturday. ''1979 West Somerset Railway 2019''.

Unfortunately it reminded me of a grave stone. <BJ>

Mercy! I tried watching it but gave up a minute or three in because of the b----y "music". As my grandmother used to say of some things "It's so unnecessary".

Thanks for the warning. I will avoid it. So many transport related videos, tv programmes etc. are ruined with 'muzak'. It does seem that much of the world cannot cope with quiet or relative silence (few places are silent) and has to have some 'musical' noise present.
