    Hello

The 563 Locomotive group is now on the hunt for a twin sight hydrostatic lubricator for LSWR T3 No.563.
Having a bit of a rethink of the lubrication methods!

Should anyone have one or know where I could get my hands on one it would be much appreciated.
    Please pm me!

What are the current lubrication methods? Why would you want to change?

Lubrication was changed on 563 for dummy smoke box mounted lubricators. It doesn’t have working lubrication for cylinders.

I assume the dummy smoke box mounted lubricators are Roscoe Lubricators - have you thought of getting working ones of them rather than re-inventing the wheel?

    007,

You have the T9, and the M7. The IOWSR have O2 Calbourne, and there are the Beattie Well tanks elsewhere. The Bluebell has 488. All or at least one of these will have the LSWR sight feed lubricator, if not a later SR variant, though perhaps not the type you are looking for. The Bluebell 488 sight feed hydrostatic lubricator would probably be your best bet as having outside cylinders.

I would think, myself, that MacLeod would not have ordered the sight feed lubricator to be removed; after all, despite the"cosmetic" restoration prior to the Waterloo Centenary, something else was going on, as you are now well aware of. If I recall correctly, Boxhill, when being restored at Brighton a year or so before retained it's sight feed lubricator (though I will need to check this), and Boxhall was restored to steamable condition.

I would suggest you make some enquiries of the NRM - it maybe that the sight feed lubricator has been removed since 1949, and it may be lying around somewhere at York.

A copy of the SR type ought be not too difficult to make for a loco with 2 outside cylinders. You also have the T3 example in miniature at the Science Museum (where I last saw it - though I guess it it is now at York).

It is quite possible the NRM have the original drawings for the sight feed lubricator of the type you want, or they are some other archive somewhere. But I would suggest you first contact the Bluebell and have a look at 488.

    Cheers,
    Julian

    Thanks for your reply.

Just to close this off, we have decided to fit a single sight lubricator to the locomotive as this is what it would of been fitted with after the displacement smokebox were removed.
No.488 is fitted with a mechanical lubricator driven off the valve rod extension.
I can assure you that 563 had it removed and it was never replaced. The smokebox mounted ones are fakes fitted for display. We don't intend to now fit a mechanical.

We are currently chasing various options for the Lubricator itself and have a number of leads.
