RE the diesel legs on this. UKR had a Euston to Chester serving Crewe open day in June and it had slightly less pickups but was about 30-40 mins quicker reaching Crewe than this one and even left Euston after 8am. May also be slowed down by a combo of the few extra pickups on this one added to the need to kill a few minutes in Staffordshire to tie up with the steam legs North of Crewe too, which involve congested routes in places. Ultimately a passenger could be finishing breakfast in Crewe during the loco change if had been given a quicker run but its nice for those on board to be able get their pictures shortly afterwards.

Well here we go. Four hours of comfortable coffin travel to Crewe. When 70000 hooks up the load will be 11 but the good news is that Standard is at the front and so seated in coach 3 there's a reasonable chance that I'll hear the loco from my cell.

As it may be 25+ degrees today, maybe I'll get to appreciate the air con units.....

Via carriage sidings to Wembley Central so regained SL after 20 min. This is partly why we take forever to get to Crewe.

I will expect to see a full report on the 47 running Al with speeds and times at every milepost!! I had thought about booking on this but in end didn’t. Would have joined at Crewe

I know you are joking but that really is an "in your dreams" request.

My focus currently is breakfast with table service and ketchup for my bap being supplied in individual jars. Catering on Saphos sets a new standard. Some would say they've lifted quality up to normal for 2019.

They should have marketed the tour to the Branch Line lot - they would have liked that!

The train manager James and a lot of the catering staff are former Northern Belle people.

Half an hour early at Crewe. P12 not available till our due time. And the Crewe to Crewe leg of 5.5 hours doesn't give any stop in a station. But the air con works.

Rather you than me old chap. No window hanging, no chance to stretch ones legs at an interesting destination. Not my cup of tea at all.

Diesel being detached from back at Crewe so steam on its own. Well done Saphos.

Nice noisy run up to Hoghton summit, about 3E at Chapel lane. With the 1 hour stop at Blackburn enough time to return home for a drink before going to Rishton to see the Brit powering through the station. For those on board who are not familiar with the usual East Lancs weather, it’s always like this but 15 degrees cooler and raining.
