Surely if the boiler is being worked on its not going to be just left to rot .

Anyone planning to visit by public transport there are two new timetables for the 50 bus route. One until September 21 and one from September 22 (which I suspect will still be needed for the gala weekend)

Don't think so it looked too short. The unknown boiler's Firebox was just the corners and I hadn't heard the M7 need that much work

It is interesting that the North Norfolk Railway Engineering Website hasn't been updated since January 2018! What with the Drummond website disappearing, these are worrying times.

I wouldn't read to much into outdated websites. Unfortunately this is all to common as they are often setup and maintained by a single enthusiastic person who then becomes too busy, moves on to other jobs/railways or just plain loses interest in the website. It doesn't necessarily mean that the organisation represented is in trouble.
Frustrating though it is when some websites get neglected, we should be grateful for those that are updated regularly.

These days the most up to date information tends to come from social media, e.g. Facebook. This is understandable as it's easier to post new information without needing any knowledge of how websites work or how to get at the site markup files to change them. Unfortunately it's often impossible to find the news as there is a tendency for these sites/groups to be swamped by people sharing their photos.

Yes, one of my personal 'things that wind me up' is facebook being used as a replacement for a proper News page on websites. :)

Not everyone uses social media for security reasons, and the SR website still has not been updated for the steam gala "Details to follow", and not everyone will join the trust to get a newsletter if they support other trusts.
But like a recent report about how important it is to get young people involved, having a good updated internet presence is important to keep them interested.
Also having 30053's boiler at NNR for 18 months, without an update from owners Drummond society is not good.

You do realise that "young people" rarely use facebook, it's used more by the older generations.
Insta, Snapchat and their ilk are where you'll connect with da youf.

Thanks I did say "having a good updated internet presence is important" so societies do need to get help to make internet communications with da youf effective.

Yeah yeah yeah. I’ve heard that claptrap before.
Facebook is for people more interested in other people’s lives than their own.

I know that seems to be the trendy thing to say to make older people sound like they're up to speed with things, but I don't really see that. I'm sure plenty of young people use Snapchat and Instagram *more* than they use Facebook, but Facebook is still the defacto way of connecting with people. Not to say it's not worthwhile engaging with Instagram and Snapchat, but I think Facebook is still the most important social media outlet to be on.

Websites and Facebook pages both have their place. Websites are a long-term source of information and reference as well as news and marketing. Websites are generally 'one way' from the author, with little interaction from the reader. Facebook pages are great for recent news, photos and comments from readers. The SLL website gets around 50 users per day. In contrast the most recent set of photos on the Facebook page has been seen by over 4000 people in less than two days.

That is all wonderful information, but where can I find on Facebook any news about the M7 - I do agree that websites do get forgotten (more important things to do) but they are the only way to really inform those interested in the work that is being done and maybe attract possible sources of help and funding.

No, they are not the only way to inform those interested. However, they are a very good way to get the attention of people, especially non-members, and a poor or non-existent website may mean that support is foregone. Meanwhile, if that particular project is of such interest, there are some more traditional ways of getting in touch.

The updates from the SSL and Mogul groups are good, concerned about the Drummond society M7 and main SR website updates

Was on the recent 4tc tour and last Tuesday saw queues at Waterloo platform 19 for the Windsor steam service.
Notice it is the last SWR diesel service this weekend and the Union of South Africa will have a tour (but from Victoria not Waterloo).
Thinking of 2020 and hopefully the DMUs will be working to Wareham, but the LU 4TC tours went well to repeat, and 31806 might also do some steam tours from Waterloo to Swanage?
