Got a couple of days in York later this week.
Might have a go on the SSE. Anyone know what's going to be on the front?

    Thanks

Anyone know the running arrangements today; does the steam loco hang on the back from Carnforth or is it already at York ??

From information on Railcam, I believe that the steam engine has failed at the NRM.

5Z22 10:50 York N.R.M. to York Loop (Holgate).

''This service was cancelled throughout due to a problem with a steam locomotive (ME)''.

The charter has just departed from York 5 mins late presumably diesel hauled. Bad luck for all involved. <BJ>

If it's just a temporary glitch then they may be able to send BIL L/E to haul the return trip. Such things have been done before. Big "if" ....

Love the original shot and the ensuing humour. On a serious note I went for a short walk out today past my local line, just for a breath of air and to watch anything going past. I observed a chap taking railway photos with a camera mounted on a huge pole (metal not Eastern European!) attached to a tripod. The camera must have been at least 20 foot up in the air. Never seen anything like it. Can any of the serious photters on here comment as to whether this is a usual piece of equipment these days?

Pretty common these days, particularly with modern traction photographers.

It is in the south and south west of the country. The railways in the region have become an avenue of trees.

The use of a cameras mounted on long poles or the use of drones is becoming more common. <BJ>
