Well i would have seen it as at the time in the 1960,s that either the cambrian central wales line to Brecon and merthyr or the L.N.W. Heart of wales line 1 has to stay open for some sort of South west rail connection from shropshire to south wales had to remain. And also closing the carmarthen to abeystwth G.W.R. line dident help although it wasent a beeching closure and only served sparsley populated villages in S.W. wales i reckon and the only other line that remained open as a alternate south connection from shrewsbury is the L.M.S/G.W.R. joint line to hereford and abergaveny maindy jct.

Slightly strong way of putting it, but the Central Wales was clearly one of a category---the Far North, the Kyle Line, the West Highland, the Cambrian Coast, the Cumbrian Coast, Hull to Scarborough--- where a variety of social political and strategic arguments prevailed over narrow economics when in other cases like the Waverley Route and the East Lincs they did not.

I'm sorry too not to be going on Saturday but hope it all goes well.

45231 running downhill into Shrewsbury this afternoon at Battlefield about half an hour later than scheduled.
The tower of Battlefield church is visible through the bridge.

So then 45231 has a intresting L.M.S. and B.R .career at paricroft 1936-1954 Northampton to Aston 1963 rugby and Chester to speke jct in and finally carnforth in 1967 and in 1968 put up for preservation and restoration at 10A so 45231 has a chequered history and preservation history although im only 37 years old stuff like this intrests me alot and look foreward to riding behind 45231 to carmathern return and maybe get chance to speak to other enthusiasts who are old enough to remember 45231 in the B.R. era

Good to see 45231 made it to Shrewsbury. Have just done my own light engine move to Telford, and fuelling at the overcrowded Spoons they have there.

Load 7, it should be comfortable on the steep sections. She was going well at Dorrington.

Ah, we miss each other again!

....was going well at Stapleton as well, even if the early morning sun dipped again as it rounded the corner and came into view! Lol

...and no smelly diesel on the back as it left Salop either!

Looks like the LSL stock. Coffins at the back, presumably, so at the front on the way back?

I think you may be right - third coach looks chocolate/cream.

True, and RTT does show a full trailing load for the turning movement: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U54595/2019/09/07/advanced

Sponsored by DB/Transport for Wales as a re-run of the diesel subbed Arriva Wales one in 2018. Bookings and staffing via Pathfinder.
