Clarification please Mods. A thread was started on Clan Line’s trip to Bristol but mine and other posts were moved to the general Belmond thread and the thread about today’s run was removed.
Any individual steam hauled trains used to have their own thread in the What’s Going On Forum.
That no longer seems to be the case. Do we have to post videos/ photos of individual trains in RTC, Steam Dreams, Belmond, VT threads rather than give them their own thread?
Seems a backwards move to me. What do others think?

I've no idea on this specific one, but generally I prefer one off tours to have their own thread, but for repeatable trips like the Jacobite, Shakespeares etc. it makes sense to have just the one thread for each series.

I agree about one thread regarding the Jacobite and the Shakespeares but not about one off tours.

I agree, it's a backward move. To me, Belmond means circular dining trips around Surrey. I would never think to look for a trip to Bath in that thread.

Not sure what has happened with the above.
I did wonder why earlier in the year an RTC 2019 thread took off covering a multitude of tours when it would seem better to have say a WCME a CME etc.
Unfortunately once something like the RTC 2019 has got going, sorting posts out to the different individual tours becomes a very time consuming task.
Of course any member is free to start a new thread for infrequent tours.

There is a CME 2019 thread that's been running all year; and there's the usual annual Royal Duchy thread. Only some RTC tours have been swallowed up by the RTC 2019 thread.

The same with Steam Dreams. Virtually all their tours have ended up in the Steam Dreams 2019 thread.

To my mind repeat itineraries are best in one generic thread. For example the SD Windsor trips, VT Shakespeare Express and Fellsman. The Belmond Pullman is another example although with hindsight, I agree that the one-off Bath trip could have been left separate.

Generic threads are fine for repeat itineraries, but in the continuing absence of UK Steam, having a separate thread for one-off tours helps to flag them up to those of us who might miss them otherwise.

Agreed, in this instance I actually saw the thread title before it got merged and had a quick look to see if it was convenient to see. As it happens it wasn't but I'd have missed it altogether if it was in the main Belmond thread from the outset.

It might be a good idea for the Mod(s) to pop just a little one line note on to mention changes are being made. If a note had been forthcoming it's fair to say this thread wouldn't exist.
It would only take a minute to inform members.

Some tours are repeated like CME's, TBE's, Royal Duchy's etc. Why not run a thread for the season ie RTC CME 20XX

Some are one offs say RTC Pennine Blackpool Express and date.

So manage the threads in that manner so it is easy to follow and keeps to the topic.

Nothing wrong in having generic tour operator threads for general comment on the plans to run alongside the others.

The problem with having repeat tours in the same thread is that it can get confusing when people start talking about "this week's CME", "next weeks Torbay Express", etc. Sometimes difficult to work out which week they are talking about.

Should be able to suss that out from the dates of each post but I don't think the Mods should remove a thread when it's been posted and read. We're not that short of space on the site are we?

On detail....a thread is seldom removed once posted. It might be combined in which case those affected get an automatic message.
