Sounds like a wheel flat on the last coach.

An anniversary that has just passed without any comment on here is that Clan Line has been the 'Pullman Engine' for 25 years, since hauling what was then called the VSOE Pullman on its inaugural steam-hauled mainline run, from Victoria to Portsmouth on 24th September 1994. Other locos have almost always only substituted when Clan Line has been unavailable due to overhaul. The relationship between the MNLPS and Belmond is very strong, and will continue.

I vividly remember the occasion. I went to see it at Barnes. Weather wasn't wonderful but it was still quite something to see 35028 at the head of the pullman train - a sight which even 2-3 years earlier would have seemed unthinkable. I recall a couple walking over the bridge on which I was standing as Clan Line came past and they took not the slightest notice. I could hardly believe it!

It wasn't until the following year that I managed a satisfactory photo of 35028 at the head of the pullmans (see below) but nothing matches a ride in the train when Clan Line is doing the honours. I took my (now) wife (then fiancée) to Canterbury and back in 1997 - our first ever main line steam trip together and it was a truly unforgettable occasion. Congratulations on the 25th anniversary. Keep up the good work - and if you can twist Belmond's arm, it would be great to see Canterbury reinstated as a regular steam-hauled destination. It's our silver wedding in 2023 and I can't think of a more appropriate celebration.

Agree about Canterbury, when it comes to recreating the past it doesn't come much better than a MN complete with Golden Arrow regalia, on a set of Pullmans around Kent. It just need 28 to be renumbered and renamed Rotterdam Lloyd.

Did today's Surrey Hills slip under the radar? Barely a dozen spectators at the Shalford water stop instead of the normal 50 or more.
35028 looking magnificent as always. 67 on back shoving hard as it departed, no chances being taken during leaf fall season I guess?

It (the 67) had shut off by Blackheath Crossing and was letting Clan Line take the strain.

Beautiful light too! Quite the contrast to the drive back to the Mid Hants which involved 20 minutes of white out conditions on the A31 at 25mph...

It was believed that Clan Line would be going through Kent today.
