It has been a long held ambition of the North Norfolk Railway to restore the missing buildings on Platform 2 at Sheringham - this is your chance to help make that dream come to fruition:
The Sheringham Platform 2 Project has been initiated - the NNR is looking for your help in raising the initial £185k to rebuild the missing building. This will enable us to erect the back screen wall, and the canopy stanchions and steelwork. If we raise sufficient funds the works will commence early next year. Once this stage is funded a second appeal will be made to help fund the glazed canopy. The picture is a Photoshop mock up of how the restored buildings (on the right hand platform) would look.
We would be grateful for any assistance you feel able to give to help bring this project to fruition:
    · Donations can be made online by credit or debit card at shop.nnrailway.co.uk/qr.php
    · Cheques should be made payable to “North Norfolk Railway plc” and posted to Platform 2 Appeal, North Norfolk Railway plc, Station Approach, Sheringham NR26 8RA.
    · An appeal leaflet with Gift Aid form can be downloaded from www.nnrailway.co.uk/platform2/
or requested via email (enquiries@nnrailway.co.uk), by post, or call 01263 820800.
    · Further details can be found on the NNR website at www.nnrailway.co.uk

Delighted to see this project finally get kickstarted. I recently visited the NNR over the past weekend, my second time visiting there and it this point I can happily say this railway has solidified itself as a firm favourite of mine. Beautifully maintained locomotives and rolling stock, gorgeous views of the sea and seaside landscape, and of course charming well cared for stations.

Sheringham Station actually was a highlight for me, as the charm of the place and with it being generally so well maintained, it just stood out to me as a station more then most. I think the fact also that it has quite the dramatic entrance into and exit out of Sheringham, with the great sights of the seaside and the sweeping green hills of the golf course, really sticks for a long time for me.

Getting back to the matter at hand though, while I did enjoy my time at Sheringham, the lack of a building and canopy on platform 2 did stand out to me. Just felt something is missing, and all being well, perhaps it won't be long before that feeling of something being missing can finally be put to rest.

Just curious, I'm aware the canopy stanchions won't be exactly the same, but will the rest of the general design of the canopy as well as the building itself be as close to the design and look of original as possible?

Also as I understand it, this project is coinciding with the bay platform being put back into use, may I ask what possible use having an extra serving platform could have? Or indeed for that matter, does it offer an advantage? Again as I said, just curious.

Wishing all the best for this project, and will most certainly keep a sharp eye on it's progress too.

Really pleased that this project, which has been dormant for a few years, is seeing the light of day. Marketing seems to have been well thought through with a good article in Steam Railway. It is a project I will support.

From what I have seen, the proposed design is not quite as per the original as it is without the canopy returns past the retaining wall onto the car park area. Is there any reason for this? It certainly added to the character of the original building. I took the opportunity to look at the old Yarmouth Beach station on the Disused Stations website and that had a long platform with a lot of M&GN canopy brackets. Were enough recovered to complete the full canopy design at Sheringham?

    Best wishes to all involved.
