The challenge for the NYMR will be how to match it next year. With a bit of luck they will have three more home based engines running, in the form of 34101, 75029 and Lucie, which would be a good start!

I don't share your optimism with two of them although I would be pleased to be proved wrong. I am getting good vibes about guest locos, though so it could well be as good.

Having had two full days and considering the weather, I thought I’d get the 5.5h drive back out of the way!

Grosmont webcam is very useful if you happen to be somewhere with some signal, or looking at it for the few minutes that the loco is sat on the train before heading out. 10 minutes notice isn’t a particularly practical way of planning your day.

Anyway, enough of all that. Well done to the moors.

As a fellow member of the NYMR like Steve above. I'd love to see D49 Morayshire visit. Run her with the Teaks and you'll have a "classic" LNER secondary route combo. What's more it'd be a correct combination of loco, stock and line as D49s operated over the Moors [when in service] in pre-closure days.

Much as I'd like to see the D49 visit, unless it was double headed (B1, obviously!) it would be restricted to shuttles if passenger loadings were anything like this year. As for the bigger LMS engines, I can't see why they might be out of gauge if other pacifics fit. They might be too long for the Pickering headshunt, but I thought it was originally designed to accept them. It will be an interesting 12 months wait!

I believe the plan is for the D49 to spend about a year at home before going off on visits. Bearing in mind it makes more marketing sense for her first gala appearance to be at Bo'ness, I think the NYMR 2020 gala would be considered too soon.

Don't take the above as gospel however, as circumstances can always change between now and whenever the Shire emerges from the workshops at Llangollen....

If I were to join in with the ideas of engines to suggest - then my first choice would be to get an 8F. One of those from Great Central perhaps as a visitor. Really, I would like to see an 8F arrive as a home fleet engine, but with the 9F, Q6 and WD, the need for that might negate with such engines in traffic. It might depend on if one could get into Whitby.

Some suggestions might mean they are there for shuttle or use in double heading. 78018 would be gorgeous to see in such countryside. 43106 would be an engine returning to its former North Eastern territory. A Fairburn tank again would be stunning. 46115 would be another engine that would be great.

As ever the off region engines for a gala are a draw. The Western regions ability to build engines of class, power and style means that a Castle would be stunning to see again. I did wish 5043 made an appearance.

For the Southern region dare I mention I would very much enjoy seeing 34046 Braunton or a Merchant Navy such as 35018. See, theres some Southern stuff I don't mind after all.

Pendennis might be an option in a couple of years time - a loco that does after all have a history with LNER metals.

Fairburn tank 42085 would surely be one to go for - it did, after all, run along the route in BR days.
