    Thats the one i was trying to think of after the tubes have been rolled and expanded ive never done it (but would love to see how it is carried out maybe at the yorkshire dales railway where i got offered a voluntary job to help restore carriages where im a member) to seal the ends of the tubes over the tubeplates so water dosent seep through them.

    Beading is applied to stop the tube ends burning away and protect the tubeplate. It doesn't have anything to do with stopping water "seeping through". Many locos simply have the tubes expanded and are not beaded at all - the seal is made with the expander.

    Looks like the return cranks were not for coming off, or are they always difficult customers? Evidence of some heat application there.

    SNGs overhaul looks to be going really well, the quality of the work is evidently very high.

    Looking forwards to seeing her make a trip to (yup, here is comes, I’m nothing if not predictable) Ferryhill in the near future :)

    Very true, but doesn't she look the mutts nuts in BR Blue? Perfect for photting in less than direct sunshine (unlike BR Green). :D
