With many railways stopping lineside pass schemes could someone please tell me what railways still offer PTS courses?

All railways offer a PTS to working volunteers, who require such to complete their duties as part of the role(s) they undertake.

Which railways offer PTS for photographers only is a different question, and one that will be diminishing as time goes on I suspect.

Yes I tend to agree I am surprised the insurance industry, that now seems so risk averse, (but happy to grab your money) is prepared to offer any insurance cover for random enthusiasts lineside. I hasten to add that I personally do not see it as an issue, but if you are no longer allowed around yards or sheds at many lines, and the endless cries of "stand back from the platform edge" now invades the heritage scene (how long before yellow lines appear?) it seems a bit too far I suspect.

Additionally, though I am not sure as I only volunteer on one line, you may find that heritage railway A does not recognise a PTS card from heritage railway B if your angle is to gain a card and visit anywhere else at random. Anyway I can't see any line offering PTS to someone who isn't going to volunteer - maybe they do I dunno.

Generally speaking, PTS permits are not transferable between railways.

On the Severn Valley Railway, if a volunteer needs PTS for their work and already holds a current Network Rail PTS they aren't required to sit a Severn Valley PTS exam. If they hold a PTS from another heritage railway, they are. Anyone applying for a lineside photography permit is required to sit a specific lineside photography PTS exam, whatever passes they already hold, as the SVR lineside photography permit is more restrictive than a volunteer PTS.

(Usual "all off the top of my head, I'm just a random volunteer, do not take as definitive" disclaimer here of course)

Having only ever visited whilst stewarding mainline tours that have gone to Kingswear I had not noticed as I guess my mind was still in National Network mode. Still you did me make me review some shots I took last visit. Not sure how I missed it in those as well.
