Thanks for the pics - stunning finish - I should have been there, but Mrs S has the flu, and then the event was oversubscribed to boot :-(. Anyone know if the engine is on display on Sunday?

I am sure many people would like to make a visit so perhaps AC as the NRM representative on National Preservation could keep us up to date with when she will and will not be on show...

    Thanks in advance.

There is a logue of the run in the latest Steam railway and there is no indication of any excessive speed .

I am not going to comment further but I ask forum users to consider not posting on this subject. It is just unfair in my opinion to do so.

Have removed pots which contain allegations of excess speed and rumours about individuals which may or may not be true.

I imagine someone has got their wires crossed with regard to a possible later 90MPH test run and this supposed 10% thing.

Whilst I agree that it looks great in apple green, I think it's a bit of a shame that it's now pretending to be a BR loco which, in my opinion, rather de-values the achievement of building a brand new loco. I've no problem with a livery based on that carried by other members of the class, but some variation to show that it's not just another preserved loco (e.g. retaining the website address, instead of BRITISH RAILWAYS, on the tender) would have been good.

Here we go again \:D/ , another livery debate.

My own opinion on liveries has always been the same:

"Those that deliver the goods and restore have first choice of livery although it does not need to stay in that livery for ever"

    Regards

Its already common knowledge that the livery is going to be changed every 2 years.

If you check the website it gives details on the "forthcoming" variations, from memory, express blue LNER next i think, followed by 2 variations on BR green.

My preference would always be brunswick green with late BR crest because this was how I remembered them, however,I have to say that I was impressed by her appearance at the NRM yesterday and the varnish still had to be applied.I never thought I would see an A1 standing on one of the turntable roads at York again so thank you to everyone concerned for making this remarkable event possible.

Agree totally. However, I am not clear if the livery choice was made as a society (i.e. by the covenantors), or was a management decision. You could understand the choice of an authentic livery if made by covenantors, however, given all their previous savvy moves, you would think that the Trust management would have seen the major danger of joe public seeing Tornado in this livery and not appreciating at all that she is *brand new*. Still, decision made, so I guess its moot, lol. Short of the suggestion of keeping the web address on the tender, its hard to see what modern take on it they could have done. I loved the fake NatEx full scheme somebody posted though. They should do that and hire Tornado to NXEC for *real* Flying Scotsman duties, instead of whoreing her out for private charters. I actually quite liked the grey undercoat in matt finish. It gave her a sort of modern brand new machinery type look, you definitely wouldn't mistake her for just another loco in that. I personally also think all the glossy paint visually detracts from the truely impressive shiny bits, the brand new machined connecting rods etc.

Welcome to the forum! I too am worried what this could mean for any potential royal journey, as i seem to remember in an article about the NWC trip with the Duchess (6233) that if anything leaked, it would be cancelled. I guess only time will tell.

A lot easier to keep clean though. In any case, grey is not the most practical colour to paint a steam engine! Looks good though, that sort of fresh vibrant colour is just the thing it needs.

Stunning, simply stunning. Truly a fantastic livery and paint job, hats off to the painters for a truly excellent job.
