Apart from the welcome double headed Black 5 motive power I now see from the RTC site that revised provisional times bring the trip back into Manchester as late as 2030 having taken three hours to cross the Pennines from Sheffield. That said, it's still an interesting trip but completely screws up any hope of getting back down south from Manchester on Sunday.

So it looks like a bit of creativity will be needed to get my Barnsley to Horbury track without this trip turning into a two nighter. On the face of it a Sheffield exit at 1645 (on RTC timings) will be necessary.

So if anyone fancies a one way ride with two 5s from Sheffield to Manchester/Preston on 3rd Nov then send me a message and I'll happily oblige.

I have similar logistical issues due to engineering work. As I'll be doing Blackpool with 60163 the day before, I have to drive to Crewe, then overnight near Chorley before ideally boarding at Blackburn, but it might end up being Bolton.

No info or timings yet for Sunday but I guess we should assume that the locos for this will be 45407 and 45212.

52 minutes Blackburn to Bolton. In the absence of detailed timings, would this suggest a run via Chorley instead of Sough?

Well it's a tricky line so maybe just plenty of time and I presume that the Bolton time is depart not arrive.

Cotton Mill in 2010 ran via Darwen (4min passing stop) and allowed 50 mins Bburn dep to Bolton pass - so fingers crossed.

Blackburn to Bolton was timed for 29 minutes on 15 February 2015 (Tin Bath), including 4 minute crossing at Darwen, although it was in the evening. Still deciding which station to board as I can't get to Manchester in good time for departure due to engineering work on TPE. As such, driving to Blackburn is my Plan A.

I have been looking out for these myself Davo, no sign as yet, however RTT was having a few issues earlier. I am sure someone will post a link if / when they do appear.

Looking forward to a good trip behind the Riley 5's.

Marvellous. So no run via Barnsley, which was why quite a few of us bothered booking in the first place. All in all, when 60163 the previous day is added into the mix, a fairly disappointing weekend of tours that promised much at the point of booking, but have since gone through the mincer.

There are a couple of of small consolations: I have yet to pass through Salford Central; the full climb of from Manchester Victoria to Rochdale is not yet a regular fixture in itineraries, and doing the Hope Valley westbound is very rare. But there is nothing 'new' or rarely covered like the Barnsley section.

On the R.T.C. website description of the route detail its still showing as going outbound via stockport east on the hope valley and up through barnsley onto the ex L.Y.R. woolley tunnel route to horbury east jct is this a last minute change of pathing then for some unexpected reason?

Basically the same as the Tin bath route but opposite way round clockwise.

Those timings and routes bear no relationship to the timings given in the tickets sent out the other day. On that basis I have prebooked my journey back down south not to mention accommodation. If those times are to be believed then the rare track from Barnsley has disappeared - that's why I booked - and the whole trip has been rendered useless from my perspective.

My assumption is that this is a mistake as the RTC wouldn't send out tickets and confirmed times if they haven't been confirmed. How on earth can you plan travel and accommodation with mixed messages like that.
