3802 hasn't been on the roster for months -stopped re tender tyres so nothing sinister re not being on September roster.

Can this be considered as confirmation of the sale of 3802 ?

3802 is still in the yard. Obviously not on the loco roster. As previously stated the tender tyres aren’t within the required limit so it can’t be used. Why would 2 empty low loaders on a duel carriageway near Llangollen mean it has been sold, or a chap involved with a black 5 (that is based at Llangollen!) posting a picture of it above? When there is news it’ll be publicised I’m sure!

As for those low loaders, I’m sure they were connected to the storage of brand new trains (TPE??) on the island.

What is the latest on the timeline for the completion of the New Corwen station? Is it hoped to have it open for the 2020 summer season? I can see from the newsletters that great progress is being made.

It very much depends on the weather over the next few months. The infill material between the platform walls was well compacted using a Bomag vibrating roller during the Summer, but the excessive recent rainfall has made the surface too wet/soft to consider laying the paving onto.
The trackwork at the east end , crossovers & siding, is currently being set out & should be finished in the next couple of months. This then needs final levelling & ballasting plus the ground frame & rodding installation.
The temporary station building & access is 100% complete, as is the access subway & stairs, complete with wheelchair sized stairlift.
To sum it up , we can't really announce an opening date until we know when the platform will be useable.

Thx for the update T1706. I am planning a visit next summer with a very elderly relative who used to travel on the line as a lad, so I will be keeping a close eye of what is happening to time our visit appropriately.

Some not so positive news. According to the Trust the PLC is entering into a Company Voluntary Arrangement (an insolvency process to give it time to sort out its debts). The Trust is asking for urgent donations to help them repay a loan to the PLC (note for Trust, it would be useful for potential donors to know what the plans are to put the railway on a sustainable footing). It will be interesting to see if the local authority(ies) are prepared to get involved as this will probably not be the last preserved railway to encounter problems.

I wonder how a non-railway enthusiast would view taxpayers money being used to prop up a failing steam railway? If they have mismanaged their way into trouble isn't it up to them to dig their own way out? What is the split in activity / responsibility between the Trust and the PLC? If the Trust fails do the trains stop running?

If the railway is not on a great financal footing, why are they extending the line?

the extension has been ongoing for a number of years now, so I think it’s more a case of possibly getting it done and finished to get the financial benefit and/or goodwill that inevitably comes with a new stretch of line. In any case extension funds are normally “restricted” so can’t be used to pay the day to day bills. No insider knowledge but I do have experience of extending another line!

    regards

    Matt
