I got to Hanley bus station when I found out.

I phoned the CVR and enquired about a refund. Anyone who wants one should call on Monday.

I'm currently making my way back to London on a rail replacement bus to Stafford.

I pedalled up from blythe bridge on cheadle road saw malcs post rang the C.V.R. to confirm the event had been cancelled and headed back for blythe bridge to loughborough for a day out on the G.C.R. instead.

A real shame, feel very sorry for the railway. The 915 seemed very nicely loaded before cancellation.

Sadly the ballast was washed away about a mile south of Consall and the 3 locos were unable to pass that point hence returned to Cheddleton. As I left at 10:00 the 3 (coupled) locos were stationed in the platform with quite a few people turning up to view them but I have no idea how long they will remain there. A sad end given the amount of effort that had been put in with not only the loss of income from train running but the expense of replacing the ballast and checking the formation given the amount of flooding around the railway.

A photo to follow later this afternoon.

That is a tremendous shame, I have a soft spot for the CVR and hope it can bounce back from this soon!

Consall not the only issue. River broke it’s bank at Froghall around 1300hrs, flooding the station tracks and car park below.

Yes i know it was quite waterlogged between blythe bridge station and derby on the north staffs mainline in the fields and a level crossing was flooded and caused disruption to the 10:45am service train i went back to derby on. Going to be quite a cleanup operation then on the C.V.R. sorry to hear lads.

I'm pretty sure she's off to Dartmouth on Monday. Damn shame, I missed out on riding behind her on the NYMR when she failed up there and now I miss out on riding behind her on my railway too: and it's a fair old journey for me to get to Dartmouth.... oh well, I suppose I'll get round to it one day.

Up at 03.30 today, left home at 04.20 - 190 mile drive to Froghall, including diversions to avoid flooded roads. Knew I should have given up when I hit the flooded A6 (literally....) just south of Kegworth..........
I feel sorry for all of the CVR staff who had obviously put a lot of effort into organising this event for zero return. I did look at the river flowing past the station whilst sitting on the 09.15 train and wondering how much higher it would get!
At least I did sort of salvage something from the day, as I managed to get over to the GCR(N) "Anything goes" event in time to catch the (late running) 11.00 ex Ruddington and spent the rest of the day there instead.

I'm not asking for a refund, quit happily leave it and support the Railway that needs it.

As annoying as it is, it's not the Railways fault.

Were the railway not able to put on some sort of top and tailed Cheddleton - Ipstones service so there was at least some operation available? Or was all the stock down at Froghall to start with curtailing that plan?

Real shame. Worrying if the ballast has been washed away, I hope that this doesn't turn into a long term issue and they're able to get the line suitable for the Santas prior to Christmas, always an important part of a railway's calendar!

Also, if 2253 isn't able to make it to Froghall to be loaded up and is therefore 'stranded' at Cheddleton for the foreseeable, is there a possibility of the event merely being postponed for a few weeks rather than completely cancelled?
