I understand it is to be joining the WSR fleet and an announcement will be made shortly.
Had a look at it on Sunday and it appears to be in good condition.

IMHO a third DMU power car looks like a very sensible acquisition. Its a pity that the spare power cars were allowed to rot

Ruddy pity too, that the 103s, operated in the WSR's early days, were riddled with asbestos, on top of the corrosion issues which plagued the design. IMO, they were one of the better looking 1st gen DMMUs, which had wonderfully 'light and airy' interiors, with a superb view fore and aft for passengers in the outermost few seats.

I would like to see the Cravens unit back that was sold to the ELR and has been beautifully restored up there. It looks a treat now.

I don't regard the recent contributions as sniping. One party claims to have a legitimate grievance. The other has made some related claims but has not disputed the central matter of the management allegedly failing to follow their own procedure and indeed deleting it from their system.

    Exactly.

I have to agree. Just imagine, if all the passion and effort that goes into posts on here could actually be turned round to support "The Railway", what could be achieved.

One of the problems is that one of the most passionate posters is no longer allowed to support the WSR.

If that's true it's both sad and bizarre. Any organisation that can live with its differences within and harness that energy to chart a sensible course is a far healthier one than when everybody follows just one direction, unquestioningly. It works in business so should work on a heritage railway provided that individuals do not get precious about relative trivia.

    So good luck and onwards....

It is also clearly true, regardless of the merits of the various arguments advanced for and against his position, that his passion does not seem to be requited or to drive much in the way of harmony.

I have happy memories of the summer Saturday timetable being a real dmu fest, and even happier memories of watching a trespassing fox from the seat behind the driver.

That is the approach some of us in Somerset are taking (as well as an occasional photograph).

During the height of the drought in the summer of 1976 (the year services from Minehead were extended to Watchet), the whole country was as dry as tinder and there was a steam ban in force on the WSR (just Victor and Vulcan working back then), so the whole timetable was DMU operated. Teenage me was naturally a little miffed at first, but any disappointment was tempered by the superb views from the front seat. I have to admit, the run into Blue Anchor never looked better!

It appears that a large amount of ballast has arrived at Williton. Does anyone know in which area the first rail renewal work will commence and when? TIA <BJ>

I think there are far more important matters in hand like a confirmed date for the AGM and the not inconsequential matter of the Accounts for the Revised Year Ending March 31st 2019!

Shame Jimmy Perry and David Croft (Dad's Army etc) are not alive I am sure they would find plenty of suitable material!
