Does anyone know how 45491 is progressing at the Midland Railway Centre as there seems to be very little up to date information on the locomotive?

I was there for the gala on Sunday 9th May and I had a look at 45491. A chap working on it said that the owner Phil Wainwright wants to get it working by the end of this year. It looks largely complete and the firebox problem (tubeplate cut by scrap thieves whilst it was at Fleetwood) has been sorted.

Other engines being worked on are 73129 (new tyres) and 80080 (10 yearly) both in the Princess Trust shed.

Thanks for the update Respite, it will be good to see this one back! It looks like 2010 will be a good year for Black 5's returning to steam as 45379 should also be completed this summer.

I expect the work on 45491 has now stopped as the owner has been asked to leave the site due to an on going dispute. From what I can gather, more information will be available to the public in next months Steam Railway mag.

I expect the scamble of usual suspects has already started to offer him a new home : E. Lancs, Churnet Valley, Great Central etc.... I wonder if Peak Rail or Ecclesbourne will?

Think a Black five at the Churnet Valley would be made to feel particularly welcome with the extra miles they now have to play with..

You would, but they seem to spend more time on the NYMR than at Bury!

But only when the owner has no contracted work for them on the main line or at other heritage lines

    Mega thread resurrection.

Any news on 45491- There was a picture with a Stanier boiler in the background outside loughborough shed online a few months ago but I didn't know if it was 45305 or 45491s?

    Regards

    Chris

Any chanch 45491 could be outshopped for mid 2020 or G.C.R. 2020 gala and the tender on 44806 could be transferred back from N.Y.M.R. Grosmont, or is 44806 undergoing a fastrack overhaul?

The tender for 45491 is back at GCR. 44806 had got a tender on its own, now it's got a new tender tank. 44806 is awaiting a overhaul at Grosmont MPD
