Minor prang at Neville Hill last night, HST vs. Azuma. See https://twitter.com/garethdennis/status/1194882037422985216?s=21 for pictures.

Doesn't look that minor if you scroll further down the thread, a lot of the Azuma seems to be in the dirt. Its being suggested that its going to bugger up Leeds/Kings X services for most of the day?

Get some Pacers on the job, there are a few sets parked in Huddersfield, a bit of ingenuity and they could knock up a 10 car set, let the 'metropolitan elite' see what us Northerners are having to put up with .
I'd love to see the faces if a Pacer set poked it's nose out of Gasworks Tunnel.:D
Pacers 'pedal to the metal' down Stoke Bank.:eek:

Hard to read, certainly affected trains around mine this morning.

I’d been pleased to make the 17:33 Kings X - Harrogate (the HST was on that ecs) last night, but didn’t expect it to definitely be my last chance with 43300.

Has anyone got a non-Twitter link to the story? (Like those who refuse to use Facebook, I do not use Twitter)

And when I try to access this link it won't connect.

The damage to the Azuma looks a lot worse, although I assume that's mainly the crumple zone.

Kind of intrigued by this, if that section of line is under permissive control, allowing more than 1 train inti the section, why has the back end of the Azuma not managed to clear the points before the impact. Was the HST not far enough into the section, or is there not enough room for two sets of that length

Best not to start speculating what/if/how, at the moment nobody outside of the people who were involved in the incident have any ides what happened. What is obvious is the incident took place in the Marsh Lane Cutting (known locally as 'bomb alley'. kids throw lumps of masonry from the high overbridges), trains heading for servicing at Neville Hill wait there until NH has room to accept them. Normal practice is for service engineers/fitters to bring them up to NH after the regular drivers 'clock off' at Leeds station

You'd fill the 10 cars with enthusiasts, no problem.

Leeds - London service seemed to be running normally yesterday, plenty Azumas and just one 91.
I did ask a NH fitter "what happened" and I was just rewarded with a wry smile and "no comment"

I am surprised at the behaviour of some of the Azuma coaches, which have derailed and almost concertina'd. I would not have expected that from modern stock, especially in a low speed collision and I wonder what the consequences would have been in a higher speed crash. At least the coaches themselves seem to have not suffered any deformation of the body.

The result of a comparatively light 'unit' type train meeting a fairly heavy diesel loco, and the former stopping abruptly.

There are at least 2 coaches 'on the floor'. Thankfully no injuries.
