    Hi All
I know I am asking this about 40 years too late but here goes anyway.

We are looking to purchase a full size STEAM locomotive to go on permanent Display.

for preference something around the size of the BR mixed traffic 4-6-0's. Not necessarily British but of British origin.

We are not looking for anything that actually works any more or is of vital historical importance.

If anyone knows of anything please feel free to contact me either on the thread or via my email.

The question might be how permanent and whether indoors or outdoors.

To answer both Jim and Brian's questions in one It is as the center piece to a multi-million pound factory complex being built. the intention is currently for it to be very permanent as the building will go up around it. and I should also say it is for export. (Hence me saying it should not be of historical importance!)

You have, presumably, investigated the sort of replica as used at the Orlando Harry Potter exhibit?

Surely each and every steam locomotive is of historical importance!

If you can give us an idea of which part of the world this development is taking place we may be able to suggest closer places in which British built locos may survive.

Yes Andy Y very true but Duke of Gloucester is of greater importance than say a 9F but only from the point of view that there are multiple 9F's. Although I think I am correct in saying there is only one single chimney 9F? but you get the point.

I don't have an exact location as to where except it is in India somewhere. finding something closer but of British origin would be good.

Plenty of redundant British built steam locomotives in India, and the govt aren't too keen on letting them go. The 5'6" gauge locomotives haven't got much appeal here, and it would cost an awful lot less to get a cosmetic restoration done in India than here.
