8 late at the moment. Is it DL free? The sun is threatening to appear so I may go out to phot it as it passes near here.

Load 10 plus 47 at rear. Not surprising Don as they have the issue of Upton Scudamore bank to contend with this evening.

Running 14 late at present after the Winchfield water stop. <BJ>

Bombing along nicely at Bapton, in beautiful sunshine. Pity I didn't have the video gear prepared for what followed shortly afterwards!

Lucky it didn't appear any sooner. Those things can ruin a soundtrack. Common hazard filming midweek around Salisbury Plain

Stick your cans on your ears and turn up the volume for this lovely audio of the B1 departing Effingham Junction all the way up the grade to Horsley.

The reason its not diesel free? obvious here, and in a busy Surrey rush hour with two commuter trains up its blocks behind it cant afford to put a foot wrong.

And here the well know Lockerley shot, but in just perfect light.

Had one circling around while I was waiting, too. One of those rare occasions where anything that could have potentially disturbed the shot happened either side of the train's passing, rather than right in the middle of it!

Excellent. The Effingham junction one reminds me so much of 61306 and many of her sisters flogging their way up from Bradford Exchange to Laisterdyke or Bowling Junction many moons ago.

Very atmospheric. It's noticeable how light most of the loadings are compared to what we expect from, say a class 5, in preservation.

I filmed the train from high above Corston village near Bath. The lineside has been completely cleared between Bath and Saltford, probably the best it's been since the days of Ivo Peters. The train was in full view for 2 mins, 20 secs. Stunning light today. I won't forget today's train in a hurry. <BJ>

The 17:11 Westbury to Warminster service, running 11 late, has delayed the B1 at Westbury.

The charter has been held back to get a clear run of Upton Scudamore bank. <BJ>

Would you mind sharing exactly where from the view is as I was thinking of heading to the Bath area for the two Sunday trips, but obviously want to avoid Bath anytime, especially during the Xmas Market.

Here's my foot age of Mayflower roaring through the beautiful countryside on her way to the Bath Christmas Market. I filmed her at Lockerley, Bapton and Newton St Loe. Enjoy.

I was a little further along the platform from you at Horsley (my 4K video will take ages to upload!). There was only one train right behind it, with the other more than a quarter of an hour away. It's a little hard to understand why it lost time so readily in the London suburbs, to the extent that it nearly lost its path at Effingham Junction. The 47 was not afraid to assist at frequent intervals, so why it dropped valuable time just in the busiest and most sensitive sections is strange. Video frame will have to do for the time being...

I have the same DVD which is excellent but contains much footage of the last years of steam with grimy run down locos. I certainly recall those years but also go back to the late 50's/very early 60's when things were very different. The many B1's in the area were abundant on passenger and freight to and from Bradford. From our vantage points at either Laisterdyke West Junction or Bowling Junction we would have an almost head on view of whatever was coming up the respective inclines. Banked quite often to Bowling Junction, very rarely to Laisterdyke, in either case the sight and sound of a hard working B1 was exactly like the video posted here. It's that long ago era which sparked my memories, not the bitter sweet days of 1966/67. Sorry for any confusion.

No need to apologise! I didn't get to Bradford until the last years. I spent many happy hours watching B1s out of KX although as a youngster obviously the Pacifics were favoured. The B1s sometimes came through Wood Green on a down Cambridge at quite a lick. We preferred the down lines as the view was better, could see all the way to Hornsey from the platform end.
