I suppose 34105's crinolines would be rusted through by now. I have always wondered what an unrebuilt looks like with just the crinolines and lagging on, as most pictures I've seen of part-restored unrebuilts have the sheeting already in place. :-k

chris, contact the owners of swanage?? where do you start? the owners dont even know who owns it , i only made the remark because surely if she could be cosmetically restored it would make sence to send a non working engine and plus also, how would the management of the loco department react to people turning up to to work on an engine that is still not had the ownership issues sorted out, it would have to be an offer by the mhr to undertake any work on her

as regards me helping out, when i do decide to once again become active its going to be with a local railway probally here , if the scheme to take over the harbour line is sucessful, or with the KESR

    Thanks for the reply Martin:

The ongoing problem with "Swanage" is nobody knows who owns it. At the last but one AGM the Society Chairman reported that the MHRPS owned 10% of the shares and about 40 to 50 individuals owned the rest.

Some of the shareholders had moved, lost contact or simply passed away, but most of all nothing was in writing which makes any decisions extremely difficult which I am sure you will understand.

    Best Regards
    Chris Willis

Wasn't there supposed to off been a small Preliminary hearing about the MHRPS gaining sole ownership off the loco, because of nobody actually coming forward with either being a major shareholder?

Tangmere just featured on "Cash In The Attic", where a couple were trying to raise money to pay for a trip on the VSOE. Added a bit of interest to the usual crap daytime TV...which I wouldn't normally be watching, but I'm off work with the flu! ](*,)

Yes I saw that - I too feel rough! Got a cold - But went straight to work after Cash in the Attic. Just goes to show that some TV is sometimes worth watching especially with scenes like that at the end....

I recall that there was a problem with missing shareholders when Pete Waterman bought Britannia. After writing to the last known addresses and after so many non-replies, I think the Charity Commission gave permission for the purchase to go ahead.

    Regards,

    Dan

Has anyone wondered what the future holds for 34051 "Winston Churchill" ? Is she destined to stay at the NRM (as a showpiece) and to never run again?

I was talking to someone a few months ago about Merchant Navies and I was told that the P&O Company still have one of each name plate in their possession. Anyone else hear about this or possible seen this collection of plates.

    Thanks

With other examples running and being restored/overhauled... there wouldnt be much point in overhauling WC as some people would just see it as another unrebuilt BoB. The same reasons why locos like the 28xx, Black 5 & Evening Star are unlikely to be overhauled. Personally I think the closest we will ever get to 34051 steaming was when 34105 ran with her number and nameplates quite a few years back.

How are things coming on with Brocklebank Line? Isn't she currently outside under sheeting, with the boiler away?

As a further example, a nameplate and crest from 'Plymouth' is on display in the 'Elizabethan House' behind the Magistrates Court.

Maybe not a Bulleid nameplate but Shrewsbury school has both plates above the main entrance to the school.

This might be useful to some and fitting don't you think? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR_West_Co ... in_Classes

"A couple of locomotives had additions to the standard livery. Number 34050 Royal Observer Corps was presented with an ROC long-service medal in July 1961.The ceremony took place at Waterloo Station, and included Commandant ROC Air Commodore Wight-Boycott.[31] The locomotive's cabside was given a representation of the medal and its ribbon, which was displayed until the engine was withdrawn from service and scrapped in the late 1960s. The original nameplate and crest was recovered and displayed in the entrance hall of ROC Headquarters at RAF Bentley Priory until 1996 when it was transferred to the RAF Museum at Hendon".

Alot I think you will find will be in Museums.... Some I am trying to remember..... :-k
