What's your point? I don't post on here every time the ORR visits the NYMR, which can be several times a year. I don't see Tom posting when the ORR visits the Bluebell.

What was that plan that Robin alluded to, to bring all the ex LT Panniers to the WSR after they were withdrawn.

Having ridden behind 7752 I am most impressed by the 57xx's so it would have been quite interesting

In the formative years of the WSR there were discussions with LT about all the LT Panniers (and the considerable quantity of relevant spares and equipment they held) coming to Minehead. The plan foundered, I am not clear why. But I was only 13 at the time...

7752 takes a lot of work to keep up to the mark. It's as easy to over fire it and choke it as it is to under fire it. While rightly recognised as being "mighty" it is only a power class 3 loco and this does limit loadings if it is not to be thrashed, something that can be ultimately costly in preservation terms.

There will be all kinds of "reasons" advanced as to why something which is not the railway equivalent of a Chelsea tractor will not suffice (he says cynically).

Well, I did a trip with the family behind 7752 when it did fall over at Washford - the fire almost went out on a MD-BL working so I suggest that @aldfort has a valid point.

Was probably pie in the sky thinking or just something in folklore. If WIKI is to be believed, the first meeting to propose the setting up of a Minehead Railway Preservation Society took place on the 5th February 1971. The first three ex LT Panniers to survive had all gone into preservation in 1969. Two more were scrapped in 1970. The LT Panniers ceased to operate on June 6th 1971 and 5764 was moved to the SVR on 19th June 1971, the SVR having been in negotiation to buy it from LT since 1970. The Tyseley pair also moved in June 1971 so I suspect there was a similar period of negotiation prior to their purchase.

There must be some sort of internet law that a thread on NatPres can only have so many posts before the topic of Big Chufferitis gets unnecessarily brought up, referred to or hinted at...

Thank you to Mr Jeremy Hooper of west Sussex for the generous donation of £25000 (including gift aid) to the steam trust for the rail renewal. I'm sure we all agree that Mr Hooper is a true supporter of the WSR.

From what I have seen for a 'fully loaded' WSR train, the locomotive needs to be able to maintain about 750hp - which means that to be able to cover all diagrams something of Class 4 or above is needed.

I gather that when a small prairie was working turn & turn about with a Standard 4 tank while it could do it, the maintenance bill was rather high. Clearly there are tasks within the capability of a smaller loco but rather in the same way that you tend to buy a car capable of dealing with the largest conceivable job, for the WSR at least an all large engine fleet up makes a lot of sense

For pity's sake grow up you lot, you're like a gang of primary school children trying to score silly points off each other.
