Just got off at Woking. The Duchess is a lovely loco and as the train waited for the road I took several atmospheric shots of the beauty.

I have to say though that it had better stay off the Southern as it simply doesn't fit. We had restrictions today in places where I've never had them before. Tisbury?? ! But I've never had a Duchess out of Victoria and it's a while since one has been at the buffers at Waterloo.....assuming it can squeeze in there.

It was pouring with rain at Grateley when I saw 'Duchess of Sutherland' this afternoon but what a wonderful sight!!

I was informed that this the first time that a Duchess has ever ventured west of Salisbury to Yeovil Jn. Can anyone confirm?

IMHO a tour from London to Yeovil behind a Duchess was an excellent way for Steam Dreams to celebrate their 20th year of operations ....certainly better than diesel hauled. Many thanks to the owners of the Duchess and support crew. <BJ>

According to RTT it has passed through Clapham Junction 10 minutes down.

OK - she needs to come down to a size 14 for the Southern but what's not to like? :)

A real honour to host such a fantastic machine (for the second time) at Yeovil Railway Centre today. Well done to the Loco owners, Support Crew, Steam Dreams and Network Rail (gauging at such short notice) for pulling out the stops to get the engine cleared and running! Paul

Good weekend that. We had 60007 from York to Kings Cross on Saturday 31/5.

But Fleet (with the ironic name) was yet another example of where we had a speed restriction.

Given that Network Rail only had the Monday to sort out gauging for the Duchess, it has to be to their credit that they did the job so that the trip could run with steam. People standing at Templecombe on the return must have had a thrilling sight as we swept through in the dark in the seventies.

That is a great image of Pete and Chris Al.
Although I am guessing a different coal to supply to that used on the Tornado trip to Cardiff last Tuesday as by Newbury Chris was pretty black and by the time we diverted to BTM most end of shift deep pit miners looked cleaner than he did.

With the Exeter service on time and the Duchess 17 late into Sherborne the possible chaos was avoided.. Good job as there were more out to see the train than I have seen before on Sherborne station .

Thanks for the news of that. Someone mentioned the 1948 Exchange Trials of 24th / 25th June, 1948. The ACE was hauled by 46236 City of Bradford. <BJ>

Why would there be consideration of people on the footbridge?

Was hoping for a serious explanation why there would be that speed restriction in that place for that engine.

The restriction was because of the proximity of the overbridge at the west end of the station to the down main. Yes I know that makes no sense but that was what the gauging threw up.

Thankyou. Do we know if this will apply to all steam here in future?

    A few photos by myself and a colleague at Salisbury. Not the best of conditions for photography. 6233 1Z92 Vic-Sherborne 171219 01.jpg 6233 1Z92 Vic-Sherborne 171219 02.jpg 6233 1Z92 Vic-Sherborne 171219 03.jpg 6233 1Z92 Vic-Sherborne 171219 04.jpg 6233 1Z94 Sherborne-Wat 171219 01.jpg
