Agree the D40 as 2269 renumbered in early 1949, hence film previous summer/autumn, late afternoon sun, passenger attire fits pre winter.
This is before the Lion emblem was adopted of course ( and probably actually drawn).

Fascinating compilation, especially the composition of the Fish trains and other Fitted Freights ( did i see a Stove R in one), The sparse presence by this time of Ex. PO opens. Whatever was it that the two B1's we're pulling ( Immaculate early BR Lined black pulling Maroon stock including 12 wheelers... a Sleeper ? ) Think the 7F might have been a 'Red Herring...'

Wasn’t that the LNWR royal train with all those clerestories? Must admit I only glanced at it, so maybe not.

Is the p2, or 60163 certified to operate on any main lines in Europe ? are the systems in use over here (ATWP ETC) compatible with continental systems ? As a German firm manufactured the boiler, and are manufacturing a further two, has the trust ever been asked, can you bring your engine over for an open day, or to participate in a rail tour etc,

I would hope that common sence dictates a degree of continuity, otherwise I can see Eurostar grounding to a halt as it exits the tunnel at Folkestone. back to the P2, Or A1, I would think either would create a lot of interest in Europe certainly a lot of very good destinations, if the braking system, electronics are compatible, with continental stock

I can quite understand why the A1/P2 SLT wouldn't want to take the financial risk of such a venture themselves. But I would hope that, if some individual or organisation came forward with sponsorship - as happened with 4472's Australian tour - they might be prepared to consider it. In the case of the P2 it would be particulalry appropriate, given that the original 2001 visited France in the 1930s.

For the past few years, something that I think a bit odd has been bothering me.

Nobody seems to have realised that the Gresley smokebox, as seen on the P2s prior to streamlining, exists, albeit in disguised form, on two steam locomotives in South Australia.

Take a look at the South Australian Railways 620 Class light pacific. Look here https://www.google.com/search?q=sou...hUKEwid48e4oLLnAhWTyjgGHdgkAsYQ_AUoAXoECBAQAw

Both really nice looking Locos, those - Having Googled the SAR 620 Class, it came up with the 520 class too, which has obvious contemporary Stateside streamlining - I'm much less keen on that!

Another update here, it seems to be coming along at a fair old clip:

    https://www.p2steam.com/2020/02/02/early-february-update/

I always read these with a bit of hope for an update on the Whessoe Road depot. I'm sure there's nothing on it because there's nothing much exciting to say. I'd imagine all the action is taking place on the desk of architects and council officers and the like.

Exchange visits in the early 20thC were showcasing technological advances, prototypes etc, engineers were seeking best practice and of course there was a world wide customer market to compete for, taking the P2 to France would surely reinforce their view that we are stuck in an historical timewarp in comparison to their modern network.
