Hi all what do you all think about Hornby live steam train sets. I’ve been looking on the Hornby web site today and I came a cross the link to the live steam selection but you can’t seem to buy very much. All I can find is three locos and a new release of Scotsman with double tender. Does anyone know if Hornby are going to bring out any more locos and train sets next year? If there are no new release next year will Hornby pull the plug on live steam because there is not a big enough market for it. One thing that puts me off buying live steam is the price off locos and train sets and there doesn’t seem to be a big enough range of item to buy like locos. I was also told that you can’t use standard 00 gauge track but this could be someone giving me miss information.

    Thanks

You can use the same track, all that is basically different is the power controllers which are different themselves and have a different connection. All this though is included in the Maalard set and also I believe one the Flying Scotsman sets (for there are two versions!).

can anyone suggest a good place to get the following: a locomotive (preferably an A4 in black), a controller, transformer, power track, and all the other bits like water and gloves that come in the trainset pack even though i don't want an actual train set as i have a board with track hammered down already. i've got my 21st coming up soon and would really like a live steam before they stop making them but don't want to fork out for the mallard or the FS or get lumbered with all the track.

i remember seeing on the internet recently a very small live steam locomotive, i think it was just a 4-wheeler, but it may have been O-16.5 gauge which meant the boiler was larger than one on a OO locomotive. very pricey though.

I have the mallard set, use it on a rolling road mainly. I would recommend it if you can find it cheaply ie. not rrp!

No but if you froth about it enough it happens. As far as I'm concerned when 4472 comes out of work its going to fly and we are going to see some serious **** when it hits 88mph

that's when the flux capacitor kicks in, and providing the settings are correctly, allowing it to travel back in time to when it last worked.
