No it’s not, it’s a freelance 2-6-0 as the modellers would say.

If quoting modelling lore, given 9351 is on it's home railway, "Dave Brewer's Rule 1" would seem to apply.

M'yes, but it's continuing the GWR's policy of seeing what could be produced for a particular traffic requirement from an assortment of standard parts.

To that end, I suggest that it is a pretty good result. :)

It would be interesting to know the axle loadings of 9351. My guess though, extrapolating from the difference in weight between 5100 and 3150s, is that its a few cwt shy of getting into the yellow weight restriction. A yellow restricted 2-6-0 would have been a more capable, if rather more expensive, alternative to the 2251 as a branch line engine, and also a more modern alternative to the Dukedogs. That in turn would have meant that the 2251 could have been built with a P class boiler, hopefully putting it in the uncoloured group and making it a replacement for all the Dean Goods.

And then I bet more than a few will ask "Is that The Flying Scotsman...??"

I believe I've heard the NB livery of that period described as "gamboge" which is rather a melifluous word, but I think describes a yellower colour.
At the end NB locos were essentially brown.
I think for many pre grouping companies, especially pre WW1, the colours could vary very substantially.
It's a shame we don't have much opportunity to see the NB livery, as there are so few locos surviving, and the two passenger locos are under cover and unlikely to ever emerge.
There are a few photos around of Glen Douglas in its touring days in (I think) the 1950s, but the opinion of those who saw it at the time seems to be that the livery on this loco (and the Highland Jones goods and GNoSR Gordon Highlander) involved some artistic licence.

I’ve been asked if 6233 is Flying Scotsman. Does it really matter if Joe Public confuse it with FS or a Thomas The Tank Engine? It really doesn’t matter

No I agree it doesn't really matter, to the average member of the public it's a steam engine, that's it. If however it was a red Castle that's really a Hall, I bet most would know instantly what it was.

My favorite livery question took place on a passing visit to Ropley shed. A lady looked at an engine and said loudly "Is that Thomas?" She was close, the locomotive concerned was indeed blue but had a shiny nameplate proclaiming "Bittern".

    Best regards

I'd say the most confusion was caused when a big, blue engine was running on the SVR, complete with nameplates. . .

At least it didn't have a large number 4 painted on the tender...

More than likily if 60532 is going to be mistaken for another engine, it will have to be 60163 When the A2 is done, I wonder where the LNER Pacific's, photo op will be with an A1 , A2, a3 , and A4 NRM yard maybe?

I would say the most confusion was when Steam Railway painted one side of 3440 in lined BR Black; it quickly sorted out the enthusiasts from the number takers !

On that basis, then presumably any new design comes under the heading of free-lance?
