I'm not sure about seasickness, but if it was any longer you'd be swimming:)

    Sorry, I'll be quiet now...

That's been tried from he pier as well, last bloke who tried was luckily spotted by a passing ship and rescued by the lifeboat.

Southend RNLI station is interesting as well, the main station is alongside the pier on the seawall (believe the Hovercraft is kept here) but there is a second station on the pier head where the inshore lifeboats operate from. The lifeboat crews have 24/7 access and small electric vehicles (a bit like overgrown Golf buggys) complete with blues and twos to quickly get down the pier if there's a shout.
Anyone know of any other RNLI station that is similarly split..??

Just as well they kept some of the old stock back, Eh? It'll be interesting to learn what the issues with the new kit are. Reading between the lines it at least sounds as if it's still under warranty. The last thing anyone needs is a repeat of either the Class 230s, or (just to prove problems aren't confined to "clean tech") the IMR's 'cabbage'.

Meanwhile, the grandaddy of all seaside railways, Volk's, just quietly gets on with it! :)

When Volk's wanted new stock, they simply copied the old stuff. :)

The Southend Pier Railway Facebook page mentions problems with the doors not opening and spares coming from Germany. I have no idea how accurate that is.

Would have thought supplier Severn Lamb would have a functioning workshop, a mobile team to sort out teething problems and stock of spares at its Midland base.
But these days trying to improve profit margins, local support is kept to a minimum. Not helped by delays in imports.

As a retired controls and instrumentation CE I think that something called "Thorough testing" could be useful here. (Yes, I know it's hardly ever used in this day and age of Grabbit and Scarper contractors) They do really need to check more than "...does it go forwards and backwards..." before signing off acceptance (and paying the cash...)
