I believe there is also an element of seeing how well this one holds up, as previous B&C efforts have faded horribly.

B&C does tend to fade, I suppose it depends on how long you expect a paint job to last for, I never liked the dark green we used to paint the MK1's in, I would have preferred BR(S) green for the Mk 1 coaches plus having a mix of KESR dark green and two vehicles in BR(S) Livery I thought made it look like an miss match when you mixed some rakes You can always repaint them Chocolate and Cream I guess, as in a few years I would think the active locos will have GWR linage

The 'authentic livery' thing gets my goat somewhat, as it's all too often a case of 'choose some random date as a sacred fossilisation point and woe betide anyone with the temerity to question it'.

The K&ESR is a company in it's own right, just as it was pre-1948, with the perfect right, now as then, to adopt whatever livery they see fit for their stock. It's not as if any of Col.Stephens' lines never bought second hand ex-mainline kit, back in the day. Seeing MKIs in the unique and IMHO well-suited K&ESR livery makes a nice change. Well, I think so, at any rate.

That's that off my chest ..... I feel much better now! :)

You do realise that this is utter heresy, and that no livery can be considered that doesn't absolutely accord with BR or the Big 4 predecessor (or Big 4 predecessor) livery standards;). And especially not one that is bespoke to a preserved railway.

Well of course, not every Mk.1 can authentically carry every Mk.1 livery either. People get quite excited about things like a loco carrying a livery that only a different class member carried, but nobody seems to wory when it's coaches. Why not? If you want 'authentic' Mk.1 coaches you're going to end up with a mish-mash of liveries on most preserved lines, unless you choose blue & grey of course.

    +1 from me.
As a fomer DMU driver on the Epping Ongar Railway, we got plenty of criticism for the non-authentice blue livery. I doubt many of the EOR volunteers would have voted in favour of that livery (although I personally thought it looked quite nice (but obviously not as good as green with brass trinkets ;))), but we respected the choice of the former owners of the railway (and there were certainly more important things to be critising those former owners about!)

I'm not sure how they agreed on the Camilla name for the new RU but years ago 'DIANA' (another RU) was getting a repaint and as the sides were being rubbed down, and Charles had just separated from his wife, some wag chalked 'CAMILLA' where her name used to be. Cheeky! I thought.

    Little did he know....

A name has not yet been decided. "Camilla" is a 'working title' for the restoration project.

As a kitchen car I understand it is likely to carry a number rather than a name. ("Diana" has seating for passengers and thus is entitled to a name, even though those seats are no longer used for the public)

Will she be getting the correct extended bunker back after the overhaul? It looks very odd seeing an ex-island Terrier with a short bunker...

I have today seen photos showing the old bunker marked up for cutting away. And a statement that the new steel for the island pattern bunker is on order.

(Photos not yet in a public site so I cannot link here)

I may be in a minority, but I’ve never felt the enlarged IoW bunkers did much for the aesthetics of those locos to which they were fitted - least of all the O2s.

(I once made a similar comment on an Isle of Wight Railway forum - and I’d here like to give my thanks to the Metropolitan Police witness protection service for their continuing support over the last eighteen months).

    Aesthetically I think I agree.
It might however help with the longer run if the RVR do manage to connect to KESR at Bodiam.
