I suspect 60044 meant to post 92214, which was bought by Michael Gregory.

The tender frames are I believe Collett 4000g sourced from departmental use at Swindon Works in early 1980s. The tank from this tender is now owned by group at Ribble Railway restoring 4979 Wooton Hall

Thornbury is outside the shed at Lbro and according to "Rail Mail" from a quick inspection the tyres are good, the smokebox is not too bad, but, most importantly, the firebox looks to be in very good condition. So it looks good, so far, for a reasonably straight forward return to steam.....

Just the small matters of time, workshop space and funds then! But yes, it does sound hopeful. Of course, not being restored for use on the 'big railway' will save some cash. I wish the restoration team and the owner well.

A great addition for GCR sure to boost visitor numbers bored by the usual rather dreary line up.

It will save some cash on electronic gizmos; I can’t imagine the GCR loco shed skimping on the rest of it though.

A Hall, 8F, Mickey Mouse, Standard 2, Jinty and Austerity with a reserve fleet of 63601, two Black Fives, two 8Fs, Standard classes 2, 5 and 7, Sir Lamiel, West Country and now a Castle. A bit harsh?

According to their FB page, work on Thornbury will start after Oliver Cromwell 70013 and the 04 63601 are completed, which should be early next year. However I'm sure some minor work will have started before then.

Has the O4 been started? Does it need much mechanical work alongside the normal tubes and stay work?

Could be because they're all in BR livery?

Well if that's then chances are folks are gonna be disappointed, for I can almost guarantee when it returns to service it'll be in BR livery of some form. That's just the GCR's more often than not.

Once again it's all down to personal preferences. the GCR does an excellent job of recreating BR in the late '50s/early '60s, largely as a result of the locos it runs. If you like that sort of thing then it's great. If you prefer the variety you get with different liveries, and locomotives from more than just the BR standard stable (and later LMS designs, which are basically the same; 5MT, 2MT etc.) then you might think it a bit boring. Personally the sheer intensity of trains that the GCR runs during a gala makes up for it for me, as ordinarily I would fall into the latter camp.

Thornbury Castle is a BR-built engine but we already knew that right?
