As I understand the run will be diesel free but as with all of these things, that could change

Last years Waverley with 'Bahamas' ran without a diesel, though it was a few degrees warmer in August....

If I have read RTT correctly, on the return journey it looks like the WC diesel will attach itself to the rear at Hellifield Goods Loop. Presume this is to drag the ensemble back from Kirkstall Goods Loop to Keighley. I guess the "normal" passengers will have detrained at Keighley and only the support crew will get this bonus mileage and a bit of rare track at Kirkstall? Probably also something else will take people from Keighley up the branch, as has been done before.

Agree about the diesel, BUT the train does not stop eastbound at Keighley so the passengers perhaps do go to Kirkstall Loop and back. At Keighley the train reverses and goes up the branch. At 20.36 5Z59 works the ECS from the branch back to Carnforth - probably.

I think you will find that it is booked non-stop from Skipton to Kirkstall Loop, then back to Keighley to set down. I guess if you need to be home earlier then you had better alight at Skipton and get a following train.

Kirkstall loops are are passenger loops not goods loops - makes the operation so much easier.

Ah yes, missed the fact that the train flies through Keighley. I call the Kirkstall Loops "goods" as these days they are almost entirely used for the stone trains from Rylstone/Arcow/Ribblehead. I accept entirely that they are designated as "up" and "down" passenger loops. (They are the remains of what was once a four track section including a flyover, all long gone.) There seems to be an aversion to using the crossover at Keighley for trains such as this special, anyone know why?

Yes. The time involved in shunting across the crossover would delay booked service trains. Not a problem when we do it at 21.15 this evening but it is during the day.

As far as I understand it, on the return passengers transfer to Worth Valley carriages at Keighley to go back to Oxenhope. The diesel does attach at Hellifield for the last part of the tour, yes.

That's what I originally supposed, in line with previous trips, but, as rightly pointed out to me, I hadn't seen the lack of a stop at Keighley. I just thought it would be unusual to take the passengers all the way to Kirkstall and back, but at the moment that is what the RTT timetable shows. We wait and see if a Keighley stop is suddenly inserted into the schedule (or not!).

National Rail Enquiries says line expected to be closed till 19.30. Hope it reopens but if not my money is on WCRC finding one way or another to get the stock there.
EDIT:Line now reported clear on National Rail Enquiries.
