Be nice to see the N7 back at the NNR.

Maybe the N7 deserves a separate thread

    Just to bump this thread...

Are there any plans for overhaul?

I remember seeing the N7 69621 in steam double heading with N2 69523 at the 2012 N.Y.M.R. gala in steam unfortunately 4 me i was going on the Esk valley rat run to Battersby from Whitby with 75029 so missed it, but got my only mainline run on a 4.6.0. 4mt. It most certainly would be lovely to see the N7 again in a few years time maybe.

Aww, can't we start a long thread about what they ought to do and what livery it should be? ;)

(Sorry, the older I get the more cynical I become. :D)

The N7 has a special place in my heart - I had the pleasure of riding behind it several times before she was withdrawn, including my first night-time steam train ride at a time when the CVR ran Halloween trains late into the evening (I absolutely adore night-time steam now, I'm glad that places like the SVR give us the occasional opportunity for it!)

In the late 1970's when restoration of 69621 first started at Chappel (before it was realised just how bad a condition she was really in), she was given a cosmetic restoration in full GER blue livery as number 999.
Totally historically inaccurate I know as she was rebuilt by the LNER.... but absolutely stunning to look at.
Not sure if I have any photos of her from back then (I was still at school) but I'm sure someone on here probably has one or two.

We're bringing that back this year! (Well not the N7. We did offer to overhaul her for EARM, but they said they wanted her to have a period on display at their museum sadly).

I'd certainly love to see the N7 running again myself, though if I remember right, I think I heard somewhere that the EARM stated the engine was in a VERY worn out state. Apparently it was said to be in such a worn out state, that the EARM was considering building a whole new REPLICA of the N7 instead! Not sure if I can believe that though, few engines could be said to be in THAT bad a state, and I find it hard to believe No. 69621 itself could be that bad.

    I think it’s a very handsome locomotive.

Must be handy for heritage railway use, power wise isn’t it a class 4?

She was very tired, but nothing that couldn't be fixed in time. I was her final fireman on her last day, and even then she was still steaming like a witch! Would like to think one day she'll make a return visit, she wasn't so keen to climb our hill but she loved storming along the valley section with 4/5x on.

I seem to remember seeing/hearing her operating not long before withdrawal at the CVR- she sounded very off beat.

I have a vague recollection of her sat in the yard at Cheddleton with the Lambton Tank as well?

Thank you for posting the photo, agree she was not at her best back then but in 1979, she had been cosmetically restored for 2/3 years by then and all the work was being done outside. The only covered accommodation at the time was the goods shed (also the workshop) and if I recall correctly it would be around 1983 before the current restoration shed and workshop were built.

Much better condition, though I can't help liking the GER livery.
