Most likely 45562 or SG .

 

I'm not on it, but might have to consider it one day since the route is now regularly via Barrow. Ticked off the Park cut-off back in 2014, but it has since become a rarity. I seem to recall the cut-off is now shut on weekends.

Normally opened by a MOM on planning request. Saves time, but its a difficult run for UP trains.

 

45562 now allocated to this according to Railway Touring Co web site.

 

Presumably because of loading gauge restrictions for the Big Boy.

 

Which 'Big Boy' is that, then Jeremy?

 

Ask yourself about the distinction between "up" trains and "UP" trains.

 

Amusing, but slightly off topic.

 

Travelling on this, and can confirm it is 45562 as stated in RTC's e-mail.

But I'm glad some got it! It arose because when I saw the post referring to UP trains I immediately read that as Union Pacific - I've been modelling the UP for the past 10 years or so following some USA charter trips. I love the Challenger, 844 and Big Boy.

There has been a landslip between Workington and Whitehaven this afternoon, not sure how serious this is but could have implications for Saturday, see https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/244901.aspx

 

10 metre high tide and 60mph winds have caused damage to a bridge between Parton and Whitehaven - local rag stating that both lines are closed but NR hope to have the repairs done by the end of today.

NR now saying the line is closed until at least noon tomorrow.
