@misspentyouth62 The V8 has had a crankshaft bearing (there are several on the crank) that had 'picked up' whilst in service (the white metal on the bearing had become too hot). We've got others recovered from the V12 that will fit. The troublesome reed valves (it's a 2 stroke and had a habit of ingesting them causing the PU to smoke badly) have been replaced with good ones from the V12. All being well the PU will be built back up in the next 2 years. As for time until it is running ... it would be foolish of me to speculate. However, it is closer to running now than it has been in the last 45 years (at least!)

@ssk2400 The V8 is the correct PU for the loco. The V12 was bought as a source of spares. Crossley made some of the PU types with standard parts, so they could be changed with ease. The V8 & V12 are both HST engines, but with some minor differences. The spares sourced from the V12, which had really low engine hours, will go into the V8 when we rebuild it.

Crossley Brothers [established 1867] developed a wide range of diesel engines for railway, marine and stationary power uses.
Marine engines had durability and reliability but their locomotive engines did not.
Apparently one of its (successful) WW2 Patrol Boat engines was re-engineered for railway service of which one type became the HST V8.
