Like the reports provided three times a year to members of the Mid-Hants Railway Preservation Society maybe ?

It’s a chicken and egg issue. Blogs are a good way of encouraging people to join because they can see what is going on and also for one of donations. Public engagement is always a good thing.

If you look at new build groups many of them release newsletters to the public a month after they have to members so I could understand that as a strategy as well if there was no desire to write things up twice.

I can understand this if you want to use the group as a means to communicate to a small number of volunteers or members and don’t have the capacity to run a website or newsletter. But it does seem a bit counter intuitive but on the other hand, you could spend all your time answering ‘when is she going to be ready?’ questions if it was open to the public requiring someone to monitor it full time.

Oh, right; I was looking at the pictures, and my mind skimmed over the text.

Still, pretty amazing that that was captured.

Does anyone recognize what type of bird it is?

A couple of my shots from Yesterday (decided to visit for a change) - 30925 sounded amazing, Yesterday and today. Impressive given the wet conditions. 506 made for a fine sight to us at Medstead.

Halina. A 1950s one. Purely for period effect - my main camera Yesterday was my late-1960s Pentax, and the Halina has a film in it, but didn't fancy messing around with a lightmeter.

The literature in the foreground dates from 1947 so is probably a little bit early.

The photo was taken using a timer on my phone, whilst moving... it was a miracle it stayed put!

A few from yesterday & this mornings photo charter with 506......

Had a pleasant evening yesterday, having photted 506 on the Belle & 30925 on the RAT & then realising that the RAT had a lengthy layover at Alresford, it seemed rude not to sample its wares...... pure bliss sat on the station sampling a nightcap or two of Red Cat Mr M's porter! :) :) whilst sat on the platform, before a silly o clack start this morning..... :(

The RAT is a train well worth doing!

Elsewhere, earlier atop the hill there was a working party in the wagon group & more was done on the gunpowder van to bring it back into traffic. :) plus some niggles with other troublesome trucks were sorted out, hopefully allowing them to return to traffic........ oh & some remedial work has also started on the Fergie.

We were on the RAT yesterday & popped in to see 506 at Medstead this morning. A shame not to have time to go for a ride - the Bulleids made a good sight!

I agree! Wanting updates is all very well but the railway has to survive, and perhaps there has been a slight policy change behind the scenes to put information through the excellent magazine and encourage those with an interest to join the Society and be "in the know" that way. The magazine devotes several pages to the status of all locos, carriages and wagons under overhaul or restoration. I recommend anyone sympathetic to the railway to join the society even for just a year, and feel "part of the family".

Your last photo opportunities for a while...

In case anyone was not aware, the MHR has announced that services will cease from now until, provisionally, the end of May.

I do my best to give an update to what the hardy bunch of Wagonista's have been up to on a Saturday, without trying to bore the pants off folk on here!

The only major ramblings that I do post on here are from my Ropley Spy...... mainly because they're more in-depth & worth it since they're all about 499 & the clock is ticking to get her in traffic with 506 - in fact he's threatened to force me to post more of his ramblings in the near future, or else!!!

Anyway, a few images from less straitened times....... last weekend.
