Severn Valley Railway - a few pictures.

Evening All,

I spent a weekend in Bridgnorth last October and the first batch of pictures is now on Flickr. This is the first one and clicking on it will enlarge it and take you to the others in the Photostream :

You query in pic RD8770 if the coach is a BR Mk1. It is a BR experimental First Open with individual bucket swivel seats which recline. Now an unclasified open the swivel mechanism is locked, mainly to stop it being played with. So whilst BR it is not strictly a Mk1

 

Thanks for the info. threelinkdave. Is it one of the XP64 coaches?

 

3083 was built at Doncaster in 1957, it is one of 4 experimental open firsts which were to different layouts. It may have different window spacing but is most definitely a MK1.
Incidentally it was the second coach that I ever painted way back in 1974

You mst have noticed there are two inspection saloons - 80972 in pics RD8773 & 4 and 80969 in RD 8767. I am not a GW expert so won't pontificate on design but I will add a plug for SVR in that they are available for private parties and during thr main running season they are also ocasionally used for cream teas. (charges apply)

In 1948, six 52 ft long inspection saloons were built, although showing little similarity to the others Hawksworth designs. 80969 seats 23 people in loose armchairs and settees in two saloons (SVR Stock Book).

We stopped for a quick shot in the arm of SVR atmosphere on our way down to the Brecon Beacons on Friday, and Bridgnorth was looking so nice it seems a shame not to share the pictures. No trains running, but plenty of tinkering going on in the shed yard. The new refreshment room looks great (although it didn't find its way into any of the photos):
