You don't get anything from WSRA trustees and the two post on the same day. :Gagmewithaspoon:

    Further to what Robin mentioned.

WSRA will support further infrastructure work during the extended period of closure. We agreed this at our meeting last night with Martin Brown present as WSR plc rep.
If you would like to help please visit.

    https://www.wsra.org.uk/railrenewal/

Any money not spent during the enforced closure will be spent on next winters works.

Volunteering to assist with the work is a very personal matter at the moment but if you are interested (and not in a high risk category) then PM me.

Via what looks to me like Lea Bridge Road, Leyton? :) Must be a lot of roads closed too in the West Country if that’s the diversion route.

    Robin,

    1. Excellent Idea
    2. I suggest that the initial subjects should be what is needed to train staff followed by what subjects are people interested in producing/think are worth covering eg How a signal box operates, how goods were handled etc
    3. -
    4. I suggest open to all

    Yes, a good idea.
But I don't think I'd make it generally available to the public. Volunteers need to be treated as 'special'.
You might consider some cross-training where it's appropriate.

With no trains and the refurbished BL museum closed, I wonder whether it would be possible for someone to produce a virtual tour of the museum, or at least post a series of photos here or on wsr.org?

Well, yes, but only as a 'teaser', please. If too much is shown, there's less incentive to visit.

Whilst I applaud these effprts, do you know what else would be nice? The WSRA making an equally swift response to the PLC's disgusting press release describing the SDRT as a "cuckoo in the nest" and serving them notice to quit. Was this subject even raised with Martin Brown or are you too scared to speak up in defence of the SDRT in the worry that you too may find yourself in the PLC's bad books?

If available to all it might encourage new volunteers “when the Coro War is over why not come and join us?” Etc. whether on the WSR or elsewhere.

Andy, your reply mistifies me. You said the above which is a generic statement. I said that the WSSRT has never indulged in this. The WSSRT does not have a culture of internal plots. What evidence do you have to support you including the WSSRT in this statememt?

Coming soon to a computer near you...

    West Somerset Railway TV

Brought to you by the West Somerset Railway Association.

So, after some very helpful suggestions from some experienced videographers, here’s the ‘haul’ from Currys / PC World at Bridgwater this morning. WSRA Trustee Di Ricketts-Tanner and I will be working on this and our aim is to have a short introductory video up on a You Tube channel by the end of the weekend, and some more interesting content thereafter.

I will be attempting to learn the mysteries of video editing, and help or suggestions in that area will be gratefully received, as will suggestions for content.

Some might consider a trip to Bridgwater to be 'non essential travel' :), but it sounds a very nice and novel idea, I'm looking forward to seeing the output in due course. Probably better than my cold and wet day in the garden watching the tree surgeons at work - at least they turned up, unlike previous contractors :-(

I have to say the recent practice of “calling people out” on this thread is disappointing to say the least.

I’m not sure everyone appreciates just how onerous a voluntary management role is on a heritage line. I’ve got one and I really value the chance to just be an ordinary volunteer when that is possible, or even just to express an opinion that is not “official”.

Yes there is an important issue at stake, but one individual does not make a a committee and if a response is required, it should be of a corporate nature and not from a specific individual as to where they “stand”

equally perhaps it would be wise to assume that a lack of information on the forum does not mean that nothing is happening elsewhere. In fact, given what is happening elsewhere at the present time with an extremely serious crisis facing the railway preservation movement, the country and the world at present, some posters are not coming across too well at the moment sorry to say.

    regards

    Matt

Just a thought. The Coronavirus probably poses the biggest threat to our Heritage Railway’s continued existence. Many will survive but the WSR has financial issues which will make it difficult to get through this enforced shutdown. Surely all the factions that make up the WSR should bury the hatchet, not in each others heads, but bury the hatchet and try to work together to get through the crisis.........or is that too much to ask!
