Should have guessed Ian Riley was one of the interested parties in buying it, I bet he'd buy all the Black Fives if he could! ;)

The damage caused by the crane accident was repaired at the East Somerset Railway and it did complete the overhaul and run on the ESR before it was sold on. Below is a photo of the accident.

Given the condition he turns them out in, I can think of worse outcomes.

I thought Pete Best bought 75029 from David Shepherd in 2000?

David had passed the ownership of 75029 to the East Somerset Railway. They subsequently had to sell it to gain some much needed cash.

...and back to Thornbury, there are two, very nicely painted, brass, cab side, numberplates waiting for a cab to be made.
Here are two of those gauges now acquired for the locomotive. 20200317_143417s.jpg

Just before the shut down, the boiler was lifted from the frames. This is according to the GCR "Rail Mail" which has a picture of the lift.

There is a good article about Thornbury in this month's "Steam Railway" magazine (#504).

Via a blast furnace as an intermediate step, though you’d need to source another 30 odd tons of steel from somewhere. There must be some little tank engine knocking round somewhere to make up the shortfall ;)

And where do we get the 30 odd tons of pig iron to balance out the other side? Or shall we just write a cheque to Lakeside and hire one of their 4MT tanks? ;)

A A1X should be about enough metal to make up the difference and, plenty of this class kicking around so one won't be missed. :D

Wash your mouth with soap for such blasphemous talk sir!

I'd argue a few panniers would be far more suitable for the job anyway, lord knows there's more than enough Great Western about as it is. Darn things are multiplyng too with all these new builds left and right!

Truly a scary plot those folks at Didcot have, overwhelm the world with copper caps everywhere!!!
