As lil Bear said, Ipstones really is special. I'm not aware of anything like it anywhere else on a preserved railway in the UK.

Cheltenham to Cheddleton is only a couple of hours in the car, if the traffic's ok round Birmingham.

    Planning for Leek still ongoing

Yesterday saw a third Open coach arrive on the CVR for eventual restoration. Huge thanks to Reid’s for organising the transport in the current climate.

good news indeed on the arrival of the Open Third.
Question: there is a coach sitting at Consal, could someone expand its history and to why it is there, and is it non restorable?

Former breakdown vehicle, now converted to an exhibition coach.

for the last two summers there has been a photo display with their own theme (last summer was “Faces of the Volunteers”) and for 2020 a model Railway has been constructed which was meant to be fully finished for Easter. Oh well, it still should be just no one will be able to see it.

it’s also been used for events, I know we had a music evening down there for a NSRC social and the Scouts have visited also plus the German re-enactors camped out there for the last 4-5 war events.

still lots to do to it though, basically sales from the Consall platform trolley go towards the coach.

Having procured 3x Open coaches this year, we are now asking for funds to pay for it all. In total the cost of purchase and transport has come in at just over £17,000.

Our members/supporters have so far raised £9,000 and so we are having a bit of a push to raise the final £8k. The NSRC has stepped in and covered the shortfall for now, but this means other projects will take a back step until funds are replenished.

We appreciate it is a difficult time for everyone, but even if you can spare £5 it all goes towards securing the long term plan of extending into Leek and ensuring we have enough coaches ready.

Next time I come up to Chedd, whenever that might be, I will donate £4 for each week I could not come in lieu of what it would have cost in fuel.

Slowly rising. Another £200 raised this week. It may not be a glamorous / sexy project, but it is vital in ensuring the long term sustainability of the CVR and ensuring we are ready for Leek.

Continuing to rise, over £500 raised this last week! whether you can contribute the price of a pint, the cost of a CVR ticket or more - all donations are welcome!

We’re not asking for huge sums to rescue the CVR from obscurity, but merely £8000 to keep the railway’s plans for Leek on track once work can resume. Please help where you can, it really is an exciting time to play a part.

    £10,000 mark passed !

Thanks to all those who have contributed so far, and if anyone else is considering supporting us then please do. As I’ve said, all donations no matter how small help as small amounts soon build up into bigger ones.

Behind the Scenes there is lots going on, with hopefully some more positive news to come for the CVR.

£11,000 mark passed so we have raised 64% of our target. This has been an excellent response, and away from this appeal we have also received a private donation to purchase tarpaulins for 5x vehicles in order to prevent further deterioration.

It’s been a really positive response, however we can’t rest on our laurels just yet as we could really do with raising the full amount. Things are still happening behind the scenes, and if we get anything we can release into the public domain we shall do.

For now we could do with completing this appeal. All donations no matter how small are appreciated, Be it the the price of a pint or a day ticket to CVR; both help make a contribution in reaching our target.

Coach Appeal still rising slowly. Small amounts are soon building up so any contribution greatly appreciated.

Also another attempt to raise monies, the NSRC is now registered on Amazon Smile. This allows the charity to collect 0.5% of all orders made through smile by users who have selected the NSRC as their chosen charity. It’s quick and easy to set up, so if anyone is willing to do so we’d be most appreciative once more.

First bit of OAPWay work today. Just two of us so that we could manage our social distancing. For some time the regrowth below the canal at Iron Bridge has been a job we wanted to start on so that it was possible again to get good photos from the canal footpath. It was amazing how much fitness we had lost in 2 months despite much walking and cycling. Dropping the regrowth was fairly easy but dragging them down to the bonfire was hard. Another day should see the bank clear going towards Iron Bridge, then there is plenty more going the other way
Really good to be out from home doing something.

Coach appeal surpassed the £12,000 mark yesterday. It’s been an excellent response for an essential, yet very much unglamorous project. Here’s hoping we can continue to build innit, though I suspect our next big fundraising project will detract from this...

We are looking for nominations with Movement for Good Awards, which is issuing 500 Charities £1000 each.
The CVR support charity the NSRC is Charity 514172, so for those wishing to support us please do nominate. Nominations close at Midnight Tonight.

Elsewhere Cheddleton finally has a mechanical signal erected! It’s not operational, but it’s there and shows intent for the Cheddleton resignalling project presently underway.

Cheddleton platform and toilet block had also been levelled and relaid during the shutdown, photos of which are on NSRC Facebook page (publicly viewable, you don’t need fb to view)
