After almost being caught out by the much shorter than expected stop at Crewe, I was just in time to see 60103 Flying Scotsman pass through my local station at Hartford.

Light levels were pretty poor by 18:05, hence the need to shoot at 3200 ISO with the zoom lens wide open at f2.8 to get a reasonable 1/400 second shutter speed.

Ralph many thanks for your post which I read at 11:40. Just time to grab camera, drive down the road to Kings Langley Station, where I parked on the empty upper deck of the car park/observation platform, and saw the Black Five and support coaching heading north about 2 minutes later, right on time. I fear we will not see its like again for some time. IMG_7636 (small).jpg

Glad you caught her, passes this area around 5 pm so I'll be aiming to get out myself.

With the prospect of a significant lack of mainline steam for a while to come, I thought I’d get out to the local to see this. 45212 gallops North past Watford Gap.

45212 steaming north through an otherwise deserted Hartford station, running some 60 minutes early after curtailing the lengthy booked stop at Crewe.

How long before the next mainline steam fix...?

    Cheers,

As others have said, possibly last steam for a while through the midlands, so a shot of Black 5 N0.45212 coasting passed Rugeley Trent Valley on its way north to Carnforth. IMG_9562.JPG
